Brett Tollman, a well-seasoned tourism and travel expert, had the good fortune to be born into a family well ensconced in the hotel and tourism business. With two generations of experienced family members before him to learn from, he has now gained more than 30 years of hands-on experience in the field. He is the CEO of The Travel Corporation, Vice Chairman of the World Travel and Tourism Council and is a founding board member of TTC's Conservation Foundation.
Background
Brett G. Tollman now lives in Los Angeles, California, but his birthplace is South Africa. He studied at Cornell University in the US, and after earning a degree in Hotel Administration in 1983, he has worked non-stop in the world of hotel management and tourism.
Entry into the Travel and Tourism Industry
More than 13 years ago, Brett Tollman started working at a private firm, The Travel Corporation (TTC). He worked under TTC’s then Chief Executive Officer. He got involved with all of the company’s major selling markets (USA, Australia and Canada) getting to know each market and business. He then headed up the company’s industry relations in the travel industry in general, helping market tourism across the globe, and represented the firm in the global organization, World Travel and Tourism Council.
Today, Brett Tollman is The Travel Corporation’s Chief Executive Officer. The company represents 25 niche escorted touring companies, boutique hotels and independent (FIT) operators. Those range from firms that offer destination tours and guided family trips to river cruises, romantic hotels, niche vacation packages and tour companies specializing in European tourism accommodations. The companies represented by The Travel Corporation include the famed collection of luxury hotels, Red Carnation Hotels, Contiki Tours, ATT Kings, Busabout, Creative Holidays, Insight Vacations and Trafalgar, to name a few. TTC hosted its 2010 Tourism Conference in South Africa and by doing so increased interest in tourism to that country. Through its Tourism for Tomorrow awards, TTC contributes and encourages best practices in tourism throughout the world.
The Travel Corporation Conservation Foundation
With great concern for the sustainability of travel and tourism in the world’s most vulnerable regions, Brett Tollman co-founded The Travel Corporation Conservation Foundation. The foundation has sent funds and teams of workers to areas that are culturally and ecologically significant, but need protection from further damage by climate changes and tourism. The foundation helped finance the protection of 3 million hectares of forestland in Brazil and supported research to prevent degradation in Venice.
Personal Hobbies and Interests
A man of several interests and special talents, Brett Tollman enjoys time traveling with his family, cooking, music and film. His commitment to physical fitness stretches to pilates and yoga, and he is an avid photographer. He is deeply concerned about preserving the environment and protecting wildlife around the world and seeks ways to provide assistance to that cause.
