Amirah Bellamy is president and founder of Amirah B Fit, an online vegan coaching and nutrition business. Amirah has been a vegan for over 13 years and has raised 2 beautiful and healthy vegan children. Along with her life experience as a vegan she holds both a B.S. and M.A. in Psychology which combined have equipped her with the tools necessary for vegan and vegetarian transitional coaching.
Amirah began to center her focus on her vegan diet primarily after repeatedly having allergic reactions to meat which on more than one occassion landed her for extended stays in the hospital. The third bout of illness was the charm because it led Amirah to reevaluate her food choices and to educate herself on other options. Then, after demonstrating the benefits of a vegan diet in weight loss following the birth of her second child, she became the "go to" person who friends and family would naturally seek the advise of for information on plant-based food options. The rest is history. Today, becoming a vegan coach and meal planner has been a mutually beneficial venture for both Amirah and her clients. Whether she's coaching someone looking to lose weight or someone desiring to overcome a health issue, coaching has inspired growth and an unyielding desire in Amirah to offer support, motivation, and compassion to those seeking to transition to a plant-based diet. Veganism is her passion and coaching is her natural gift.

As more and more people become health conscious and seek out alternative dietary options I get asked why be vegan? My response is always as follows....
The more appropriate question is, “why not be vegan?” In other words, make the case for reasons why one should not be a vegan. In attempting to make such a case I sincerely doubt that it would be a strong one especially since such a diet has been around since the dawn of man. More than that I am a walking text book about all the reasons for why not being a vegan makes no sense. The way I see it the reasons for being a vegan far outweigh the reasons for not being a vegan especially with regards to the benefits associated with it. Just to name a few some of the benefits include:
Now with a list of benefits as impressive as this what is the motivation for not being a vegan. After all, the short list of benefits of a meat-based diet can’t hold a candle to this one. In fact, it offers far more disadvantages than advantages. However, the question at hand is, “why be vegan” and I must admit that providing a simple answer to this question is proving to be quite challenging. When I think of all the reasons and all the passion that I feel for being a vegan so many words tend to come to mind.
Nonetheless, I will try to articulate my feelings and thoughts on the matter as best as I can. The short answer is that being a vegan offers one a deliciously abundant life filled with health, wellness and vitality. In my book these are all first-rate reasons for leading such a lifestyle so as a vegan I feel that I am a first-rate being living a first-class lifestyle. I know that I deserve the best so why not be the best? Being a vegan is just that, the best. Having lived life as a meat-eater and a vegan I’d have to say that my life as a vegan has been unsurpassed and far beyond anything than I could have ever imagined. That alone is reason enough for me to be a vegan.
