Adored by some and maligned by others, there is no group of health care providers who divide opinions as sharply as Federal Way chiropractors. Much of the controversies surrounding this field of practice arise from misinformation and gross exaggerations. In the recent past, a higher level of awareness has lead to greater acceptance of the chiropractic profession among other health specialists as well as the general population.

A fact that usually escapes many is that chiropractic care is guided by standard procedures governing treatment of a variety of conditions like muscular complaints, nervous irritations and joint pains. Through rigorous regimes of body movement, patients find satisfactory relief from pain resulting from skeletal dislocations and soft tissue damage.

As a rule, chiropractic specialists do not recommend medical prescriptions or perform surgery. All their treatment regimes have to do with physical therapy. Central to any treatment is a form of spinal manipulation referred to as adjustment. By manipulating the spinal column, patients get immediate relief from pain and better nervous system responses.

In order for one to qualify for chiropractic license they must have attained two to four years of undergraduate college education. This is the minimum requirement for admission to a Doctorate of Chiropractics accreditation course. Before graduating, scores of standardized national and sate examinations have to be passed. Actual training is no less rigorous than what is offered at medical school.

One of the most widespread misconceptions about chiropractics is that it is a very recent method of treatment. Such people believe that its methods are somewhat obscure and unproven. This is a patently false representation of reality as there is evidence of manual manipulation of the human trunk to provide relief that goes back to antiquity. As a profession, chiropractic has been practiced for over a century today.

Another myth seeks to paint chiropractors as unprofessional and lacking in proper credentials to provide health care. The truth is that any chiropractor with a license belongs to a strictly regulated professional body that ensures standards and ethics are maintained.

There is a mistaken belief that relief from pain offered by chiropractic treatment is only short term. In actual sense, the effectiveness of this form of treatment is more long term than what medication or surgery can achieve. This is because a chiropractor will offer treatment by harnessing the internal mechanisms that the human body is endowed with naturally to cultivate wellness. Effectively done, this ensures the body returns to optimal state of performance more effectively.

A gross misrepresentation of reality also leads to the view that these highly educated professionals do not believe application of medicine provides any relief from illness. While they may not recommend such forms of treatment, chiropractic practitioners will readily admit that some conditions, especially those caused by disease vectors are best treated with medication.

Another misconception that makes many refrain from engaging a chiropractor is the belief that their medical insurance does not cover such forms of treatment. The truth is that other than being way cheaper than standard medication bills, there is adequate insurance cover for chiropractic care.
