“What you think about, and where your attention goes, becomes your reality.”
The law of attraction gurus make it sound so easy.
You may understand this concept and believe it to be true, but putting it into action is an entirely different story. You think good thoughts, focus on your visions, say your affirmations,... yet you continue to remain stuck. You are discouraged and you are now thinking:
“The law of attraction doesn’t work for me.”
I understand this feeling as I have had it myself on more than one occasion.
It sounds like a simple concept, but it can be excruciatingly difficult to master.
What I have found to be the problem, through a lot of trial and error, personal experience, and struggle along the way, is that our subconscious is running our lives. I have heard the percentage to be as high as 98% of our lives are run on thoughts and belief systems of which we are not even aware. For example: If I have an underlying belief that “I am not worthy” then I will attract a variety of circumstances into my life that give me just that- “not worthiness”.
These belief systems are running on auto-pilot and they have been typically handed over to us in our childhoods. There are labels, statements and feelings placed on us that originate from other people and have become an ingrained part of our subconscious. Sometimes these beliefs about ourselves are positive and serve us well in life, but often times the complete opposite is true.
The good news is that there are many ways that our subconscious can be cleared of these limiting belief patterns. I have found the three techniques below to be the most helpful, and fun to use, in clearing out the cobwebs of my subconscious and bringing things to light.
Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)
This technique has been gaining a lot of popularity over the past few years. It is a meridian-based tapping technique that is similar to acupuncture. It utilizes the hands to tap on specific meridian points in a particular sequence. It can be learned quickly and has proven to be effective in unearthing, and releasing old behavioral patterns and beliefs.
Alpha Brainwave Entrainment
Listening to brainwave entrainment is an extremely easy way to program the subconscious mind to empower our thought patterns. Brainwave entrainment works by bringing the brain into a state of alpha (the state we reach when very relaxed right before sleep) and then giving it hypnotic suggestions. What is so neat about this type of solution, is that we typically have no idea what our past is conjuring up in the realms of our subconscious. Brainwave entrainment programs allow us to sit back and let the recordings do their magic. To me, listening to a brainwave entrainment feels like a spa treatment for my brain; creating lasting effects as I am going about my daily life.
Belief Journaling
I like to do this from time to time to clear out some negative patterning that seems to keep showing up in my life. Belief journaling is a free-association type exercise. You can pick a category, such as relationships, and journal all of the beliefs that you have about yourself in relationships, or relationships in general, that may be hindering you in moving forward. You can then take these beliefs and turn them into positive affirmations. For example: “I am unworthy” turns into “I am worthy and valuable in this world.”
A side note about affirmations: Affirmations often don’t work that well as your only form of belief re-patterning, but they make a powerful supplement to other techniques.
There are many impressive methods of reprogramming your mind to ensure better success in attracting to you what you desire. The above are just some techniques that I have enjoyed implementing into my personal growth practices.
After experimenting with some of the suggestions above, see if you aren’t suddenly affirming-
“Wow, the law of attraction really does work for me.”
