The word discipline can sometimes have a negative connotation. It can be interpreted as hard work, self –denial, loss, and very challenging. How can discipline be defined as an art? My definition of art is creating by using your ability to make that which you imagine visible. Let me share an example. You need to lose weight it will enhance your outlook about yourself, will improve your health, and add more zeal to your life. Not to mention a boost to your self- esteem. The doctor tells you that you have to stop your consumption of soda, junk food, sugar, and include an exercise plan. This can be overwhelming, and discouraging as this involves giving up many things that you like, this requires discipline. If you read food labels most labels contain some form of sugar, which means giving up most things that you like to eat. After careful thought you decide that the first month you will use the following disciplines: 1.) one soda a day verses two, 2.) Replace the second soda with a glass of water. The discipline is measureable, and you have created a plan. Next use your imagination to create a calendar and each day that you meet the goal put a capital V on that day, representing victory. Each day that you meet your goal take time to see yourself closer to your desired outcome of weight loss. Does this require discipline? Of course. However your creative thought presented a different approach to discipline. The next time you are faced with an endeavor that requires discipline use your creativity. It works!
