When the mouth is dry, a glass of cool tea is taken to cool off the heat. However, recent researchers from the Loyola University Medical Center in Chicago said that tea should not be drunk cold, otherwise it will cause kidney stones.

After the tea is cold, it contains a lot of oxalate, which will form small stones, block the ureter, and increase the risk of kidney stones. In this regard, experts explained that about 80% of urethral stones are calcium oxalate crystals, and patients with stones should drink less tea and drink more water.

Tea is rich in oxalic acid. In case of any accident, pay special attention to the amount and way of drinking tea:

1. After the tea is cooled, it contains a lot of oxalate, which will form small stones, and the warm water is not as good as the hot water in leaching the beneficial chemical components. Therefore, it is best to brew tea with water of suitable temperature first, and then drink it when the temperature drops to about 60 ℃. Don't exceed 70 ℃, too hot tea will cause strong irritation to the throat, esophagus and stomach, causing mucosal lesions. In addition, repeated brewing or brewing time is too long, the tea polyphenols, vitamins, and proteins in the tea are oxidatively denatured, and harmful microorganisms will also increase.

2. Some people are accustomed to continue drinking after heating the tea. If no tea is added during this process, the content of oxalic acid in the tea will not change, so you don’t need to worry. However, heating water halfway makes it difficult to dissolve the nutrients in the tea, and it is not easy to brew aroma.

3. Don't drink tea on an empty stomach, otherwise more oxalic acid will be absorbed into the body, and the probability of forming stones is relatively high. Especially patients with stones can drink water or lemon to hydrolyze their thirst, because lemon contains a lot of sodium citrate, which can prevent kidney stones.

4. Drink too much tea every day. Generally healthy adults, drink 6 to 10 grams of tea a day and brew in 2 to 3 times. People who have a lot of physical labor, consume a lot of physical energy, eat more greasy food, and consume a lot of tobacco and alcohol, especially in high-temperature environments or those who are exposed to toxic substances, may drink a little more every day.
