More people now realize the power of Twitter when it comes to spreading information and sharing ideas. A huge follower base composed of individuals who read your tweets is the real value of using Twitter because more followers mean you can extend your influence much further. Here are some tips to get more followers:
Post valuable content.
This is your first and foremost priority when you go on Twitter. People are tired of people who are rehashing the day’s old news. If they’ve seen it on the morning news, they probably don’t want to hear about it again when they log on to Twitter.
Show people you’re real.
Your personal tweets are there for your followers. What about for people who are trying to decide whether to add you or not? They still want to get to know more about you so give them a great first impression. Start by using your real name or your company name if you’re managing a business page. Upload an actual photo of you, not some stock image of a cat or something entirely unrelated to you. And don’t forget to include a thorough description of who you are and what you do in your bio box.
Make your followers aware of your presence.
How often and how much should you tweet? It depends on how much valuable content you have to say. If you have two or three blog posts you would like to share with your followers, space them out several hours during the day so you don’t look like you’re trying to bombard them with lots of tweets. This way, you make your Twitter presence known to people who log in at different times of the day.
Connect with your followers.
Engage people in conversations not only by asking interesting questions, which is an excellent way to initiate healthy debates, by the way, but also by replying to them in public. Replying to other people’s tweets through direct messaging might seem polite. Be sociable and tweet your replies in public. Also, don’t think you’re above linking to your followers or retweeting their posts. Your goal on Twitter is not to build a giant follower base for the sake of your business’s reputation.
Use hashtags.
A hashtag is used by Twitterers to find posts that might be interesting to them. For example, if you’re looking for posts that have something to do with used college textbooks, all posts that have the hashtag #usedcollegetextbooks will appear to you, even when they were made by people whom you don’t follow. Don’t be so liberal with hashtag use, though. Use them sparingly that is, only for your best posts.
Avoid promoting your business too much.
Twitter users are on the website to engage in conversations they are interested in, share ideas they think might interest others and interact with real people who are there to do the same. Anyone else who’s onboard only to sell and make money out of them will be shunned and forever doomed to being a Twitter outcast. Simply keep in mind that there is no technique to buy twitter followers cheap overnight, as it does require some work and time.
It is quite clear that the only way to reach the people that make up the social network that is Twitter is by intelligently building a large following. You will eventually see how everything starts taking shape, despite the fact that it can take a while for you to see results, especially if you are new to Twitter.
