SPORT FOR PEACE

This short extract from craig's new manuscript, 'Peace Lives WITHIN' is based on the ground idea that peace begins within. Like Aladdin's lamp, the universe responds to the myriads of our individual consciousnesses. The keys, the solutions to a more peaceful world are based around some of histories greatest witnesses to peace: 'noble spirited and great souled' figures ('messengers') like Jesus, Gandhi, Buddha, Moses and Mohammed (and also evidenced in the inspiring words of Martin Luther King). In their quest for world peace, they all discover that each one of them has to be the change they want to see in the world ('Unity in Truth') and that's the common message we can ALL learn from these 'masters' teachings.

The right words can conquer the world:

"All it takes for evil to succeed, is that good men do nothing"

SPORT TRANCENDS ALL BOUNDARIES

The great power (and passion) of sport to unite (union between nations through sport). It connects sports-people beyond race, different faiths and beyond ethnic divides
...so helping heal divisions and building bridges between peoples, cultures and nations. Most importantly, sport gives hope to people.

What unites us, our common humanity is far greater than what divides us.

"We firmly believe that sport can bring the world together. Sport has shown this on countless occasions in the past and we are committed to the positive values found in sport performance and passion, teamwork and fair play."
- Herbert Hainer, Chief Executive of the Adidas sports shoe company.

"Say 'No' to racism!"

"As congregations, communities and nations, we must join hands to fight the cancer of terrorism. Terrorist bombs don't discriminate on the base of race or religion."
- Irfan Yusuf, a Sydney (Australia) lawyer, currently writing a book titled 'Once Were Radicals'

"Sport is so much more than just playing the game. What sport can do for communities, for countries can be transformational. That's not just about seeing people win.

It's around the power of people to see what's possible. Its about aspiration and getting involved."

- uplifting, powerful and inspiring words from I'm not sure whom

Each ONE of us CAN be a "champion of peace in a time of war".

"Ideals are like stars; you will not succeed in touching them with your hands, but like the sea-faring man on the ocean desert of waters, you choose them as your guides and following them, you reach your destiny."
Carl Schurz (US General and politician (born in Germany 1829-1906)

"Success is doing the best you can, in as many ways as you can.
It is being just and honest and true - not in a few things,
but in everything you do.

Always look ahead and never look back,
believe you can make all your dreams come true.
Always believe in the best you can be
and have faith in the things that you do.

Forget about the mistakes you've made yesterday,
the lessons you learn will prove valuable for today...
Never give up and think that you're through...
for there's always tomorrow and a chance to begin brand new.

It is in dreaming the greatest dreams...
and seeking the highest goals...
that we build the brightest tomorrows.

There is no limit to the goals you can attain,
or the success you can achieve...
your possibilities are as endless as your dreams.

Whatever it is that you seek in life,
whatever your dreams and what you hope to achieve,
whatever you try to reach - whatever you plan...
can all be yours - if you only believe you can!"
- Larry S. Chengges

"Hold fast to dreams
For if dreams die
Life is a broken-winged bird
That cannot fly.
Hold fast to dreams
For when dreams go
Life is a barren field
Frozen with snow."

- Langston Hughes

"Let us build bridges rather than barriers, openness rather than walls. Rather than borders, let us look at distant horizons together...in the common spirit of the value and dignity of a shared personhood as citizens of planet earth. We here in far-off New Zealand share the common bond of humanity: the pain, the sadness, suffering and joy
inherent in the human condition, no matter where in the world you may live."
- craig (3rd September 2004)

"If it is peace you want, seek to change yourself, not other people.
It is easier to protect your feet with slippers than to carpet the whole of the earth."
- Anthony de Mello (United Nations official from Brazil, tragically killed in Iraq in 2003 - a man of vision, integrity and great generosity of spirit).

"Be the change you wish to see in others. Then in changing YOUR world you help change THE world... for the better"

"Wars are poor chisels for carving out a peaceful tomorrow."
- Martin Luther King, Jnr

"Peace is the greatest weapon for development, that any people can have."
- Nelson Mandela

"Blessed are the peace-makers... because they will accumulate plenty of Frequent Flyer points."
