Do you have a unique idea or innovative invention? Then you want to protect it with a patent so that nobody runs away with it. There are a number of conditions that your invention or idea must meet in order to be able to apply for a patent. The idea must not have been conceived by someone else and it must not resemble the idea of someone else too much. We give you 3 tips on how you can best work to protect your idea or invention.

1. Apply for a patent

Applying for a patent in the USA is not very complicated. It is important to first check for yourself whether someone has already applied for a patent for a similar invention. You can check this in the USA patent register. If no-one has applied for a patent for a similar idea, you can immediately start the registration procedure. To submit a patent, you pay a filing fee and you also pay an amount for the mandatory research into the state of the art. If you need support with applying for a patent, then it is wise to contact a patent adviser such as InventHelp. The patent advisors have a confidentiality obligation and therefore you can freely discuss them with your idea.

2. License contract

Do you believe that others use your idea or invention against payment? Then you can choose to set up a license contract. For example, this contract allows other people to manufacture a similar product. The contract states, among other things, how much money you will receive when the product is sold. So it's a smart way to earn some extra money with your idea or product for which you have applied for a patent. A good license contract offers the licensor a number of other benefits. That way you keep control over the invention and its production. This is not the case when you sell it in full. You can also choose to grant a non-exclusive license so that you are not tied to one customer.

Trademark and logo registration

If you have developed a product then it is most important to market it there is another important thing that you probably have missed. Creating a brand name is wise to grow up in the market to beat competitors.
InventHelp trademark registration will then register your trademark and logo with a trademark register and as a result, nobody will be allowed to use the same trademark name anymore. Once your trademark is registered with the Office for Intellectual Property in The Hague, no one can unauthorized use of your brand name. Have you marketed your own product? Then it is a good idea to attach a brand name to it so that you are sure that no one will get away with your ideas or products with impunity.
