There are many things out there that can damage our skin. The skin is the protective barrier that is wrapped around the outside of our body.

If we do not protect our outer later then many things can happen inside too. Pollution, the sun and even dry air can wreak havoc on human skin. Take a few simple precautions and you can keep your skin safe and looking beautiful for years to come.

Pollution

Just like the free radicals that get inside our body's system from pollution, so too is our skin affected by such things. Protect your skin by getting plenty of antioxidants in your diet.

These free radical destroyers will help your skin from the inside out. You can also buy beauty products that contain vitamin C, vitamin E, and other known antioxidants. Use a protective antioxidant rich cream any time you plan on spending some time in the smoggy city!

Sun

Always use sun block as your best defense from harmful UVA and UVB rays. Sun block will usually contain either zinc oxide or titanium oxide. That is the ingredient that makes the protective barrier between your skin and the sun. We all love the sun, but it is safe to say the sun does not necessarily love us. Without proper protection anyone can get skin cancer. Where a sun hat to protect your scalp, too!

Dry Air

The easiest way to protect your skin from dryness is by using moisturizing body, or facial, creams. Adding moisture back into dry skin will keep it from being itchy and sore. Oils can help too.

What causes dry skin is a depletion of the skin's natural oils. Using some grapeseed oil or jojoba to massage into your dry skin will have your outer layer feeling smooth and looking healthy again.

Wind

Excess wind can cause something that is called wind burn. This can be a painful feeling. The best protection against wind burn is the right clothing. If you are going to be in a lot of wind you should wear a hat (one that will not easily blow off your head) and wear a scarf, for extra protection. Use a moisturizing cream to cool down already wind burned skin.

Cold Air

Cold air can also be drying to the skin. It can also have a severe effect, such as frostbite. Frostbite, at its worst, can be reason for amputation on fingers and toes. Protect your body and skin from frostbite by bundling up good when you are going out into the cold. Do not get bundled up too soon though. If you start to sweat under your layers you may still get cold once you are outside.
