The important foundation of all MLM businesses is prospecting and growing in size with customer base. Smilingly easy idea stops a lot of people in their tracks, not allowing them to make even the first step. Do you know what I am talking about?

You join the company. The first advice you get is for you to go to your friends and family and tell them about the product, the opportunity side of it and sign them up - if it was only so simple. A lot of these companies talk a lot about the money you can make if you sign up 2 people and they will get 2 and they will get 2 and you will be rich. The truth is that it takes a bit more than that. But let’s say you did it, and you sign up 2 people your first month, the biggest issue is whether your team can repeat your success? Otherwise you will end up with individuals that will get discouraged and will walk out.

In this article I am only going to scratch the surface on this vast topic that is recruiting, and what I consider the essential skill to having a successful high recruting ratio. It is your posture and the way you present your business.

So what is the best way to present your opportunity to others?

The most usual misconception that I find, is that most people assume, since they are easy going, and easy to be around, that this will translate to how well they can market and promote. The truth is that prospecting is, a skill to be acquired and practiced.

The most important thing that you need to realize first is, that you are not selling but growing your business. Your posture and influence need to be this if a million dollar business owner. We all want that anyway. You are par of a business and you need to cross over from the place of lack of self confidence, to the place where you have that posture of CEO. You are looking for people with desires not excuses. So you can’t have a attitude of somebody that is anxious to make a sale. You see not everybody can see what you see, they just want a JOB, let go of them. You will get turned down, get use to it and don’t loose sleep over it, it is part of this business.

Think about this scenario…

Imagine if someone came to you and with the most excitement told you about the restaurant they want to open, the money it will bring, and that they want you to be part of it – would you join? Most likelly it wasn’t your idea, and maybe it never was your desire, so you say no, for the reason that it is hard to get exited right there about someone else’s idea.

Now imagine that they started a casual dialogue with you, they get you talking about your family, job. All the sudden you remember how much you hate your boss and how little money you are making. Then he or she gets you talking about your financial situation and your goals, and at the end you are presented with an chance that might help you get your goals accomplished and is a way to leave your boss and your work. Does it sound different now? There is no pressure, no begging, and no selling. Remember the one in controll of the situation is the one asking questions.

If you try to get someone else excited about your opinion, odds are they will not follow through with the plan, but if you get them to belive this is the way to fulfill their goals, you just got yourself someone into your team that is ambitious and motivated to build the business.

It is quite simple. Practice your posture. Take time to know your prospect and stay in charge of the conversation, by asking questions. Discover their desires, wants and goals and use that as a platform to put forward the opportunity.

If they say YES, that’s great. If they say NO, well, there are always more people to talk to. Have fun with it...
