Prepare for IGNOU Entrance exam to study at this power house of knowledge

Introduction

IGNOU is the largest Open University and is recognized as the fifth largest university in the world. It is a central university that was established in 1985 and provides various courses and degree in several fields of knowledge. The University is a member of AIU and is a prominent knowledge house for providing distance education in India.

Objectives of the University

IGNOU serves around 4 million students from Indian and abroad. They have 21 schools in 67 regional centers and 67 overseas centers as well. The University offers certificate, degree, diploma, doctoral programs and higher education courses for students who want to seek knowledge and have a bright career. They have a clear objective to provide access to higher education to students from all regions.

Entrance exam

To enroll in any course or degree program, students need to appear for the entrance exam and pass with the score that is needed by the university. IGNOU announces entrance test for admission to various courses like Management studies, PG certificate course, B-Ed, M-Ed and special education. Candidates have to register for their forms on the date declared.

Eligibility

There are certain eligibility criteria for appearing to the various entrance exams. The Management programs needs students to be a graduate level with a pass percentage of 50% for general category and 45% for reserved. Or candidates who have a bachelor’s degree with 3 years of supervisory experience or a degree in any fields like engineering, medicine, law, pharmacy etc. candidates have to clear the OPENMAT held by the University. However, those who have cleared the state level test are exempted from appearing in the entrance test or OPENMAT.

For the B-Ed or M-Ed it is mandatory that candidates have a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university.

Application

Candidates can obtain the form for IGNOU programs by post or download them from IGNOU website. The amount to be paid for the forms is written on them and should be sent to the regional centers.

Important dates

The last date for the application and the registration is given in the prospectus or the website. The exam for post graduate and undergraduate are to held on 19thAugust 2012. The last date of submitting application is 30th July 2012.
