If you want to lose weight, you should concentrate on lowering your caloric intake. This is because when you take in more calories than you expend, these excess calories are accumulated as fats within your body, making you overweight! Therefore, the only way you can lose weight is to ensure that you burn off more calories through physical activities than you are consuming in the form of foods.

The goal of a weight loss diet is to reduce your caloric consumption without causing a nutritional deficiency. Exercises will be able to help your body to burn off the fats on your body when you work out regularly. Regardless of your age, you can still lose your excess weight if you were to make use of appropriate exercises and diets!

A really simple way to reduce your caloric intake to lose weight will be to take in smaller portions of foods. This can be easily done by making use of a smaller plate instead. This way, even if you put the same amount of food, but on a smaller plate, you will subconsciously think that you are taking more foods! Subsequently, you will therefore take less foods.

Next, you should take complex carbohydrates instead of processed and refined carbohydrates. Complex carbohydrates are foods such as brown rice, fresh fruits and vegetables. Processed carbohydrates are foods like white potato and white bread. Processed carbohydrates are removed of their natural fiber content, making them very fast absorbing by your body. This also means that taking such foods will cause a blood sugar level and insulin spike in your body, which subsequently leads to a lowered metabolic rate! By taking complex carbohydrates, you will get rid of this problem. Also, complex carbohydrates contain lots of fiber, and you will be kept fuller for longer periods of time, therefore reducing the chances of over eating as well!

Next, you should take in a small amount of fats such as olive oil and omega 3 fatty acids. Omega 3 fatty acids are found in oily fish like salmon. Taking a small amount of it everyday will help you increase your metabolic rate, burning off more fats and calories on a passive basis.

You should also ideally be exercising for at least four times a week. When you first start out, there is no particular type of exercise you should be performing. Body weight circuit exercises, interval cardiovascular exercises or weight lifting will all be effective during the first few weeks as your body is not even used to exercising!
