Much has been written about the power of positive thinking.

But to fully harness your power to succeed, you need to be careful to avoid the common mistake of underestimating the influence of NEGATIVE thinking.

Thinking positively and thinking negatively exert the same form of influence over our lives: that is, we bring about what we think about.

To apply positive thought-power, visualize success by “drawing” in your imagination a mental image of yourself succeeding.

This mental image then draws YOU toward the actual manifestation of that success.

The more fulfilled and inspired you feel as you envision success, the more powerful that vision’s “magnetic” influence over your destiny.

But visualizing failure works similarly.

Worrying about your future draw you into the conditions that you worry about.

The same applies to the power of regret, resentment, or any other form of emotional dissatisfaction: the thought that triggers your emotion draws you into the circumstances that reflect that thought.

And the stronger your emotional reaction to what you envision, the stronger the “pull” of its power of attraction.

So thinking about what you do NOT want materializes the conditions that you hope will not occur.

If you have experienced the common syndrome of progressing two steps forward toward your dream of success, only to find yourself falling two or even more steps back toward the failure that you worry about, now you understand at least one likely cause.

Your positive thoughts move you forward as your negative thoughts move you backward.

We reap the physical fruit that our application of mind power has sown.

A self-defeating way of relating with this fact is to use it to “beat yourself up” for the losses and let-downs you have unwittingly created for yourself.

An empowering strategy for success is to use this understanding to motivate yourself to eradicate the influence of negative thinking from your life.

The major challenge we face when we take on this form of self-work has to do with the activity of the unconscious mind. Many of our negative thoughts occur unconsciously.

For instance, you might THINK that you are applying the power of positive visualization to manifest success by envisioning yourself living in a larger home.

But if, underneath that vision, you unconsciously harbor feelings of deprivation or shame for NOT living there yet, you activate the power of negative visualization.

This sabotages the positive manifestation process and creates more conditions that you associate with those negative feelings.

Imagining yourself achieving a goal, while feeling desperate, deprived, lacking, blocked, frustrated, discouraged, anxious, impatient, unworthy or envious means that underneath your positive vision is a negative vision drawing you into the OPPOSITE of what you want.

Your negative mental visions exert as much power over your destiny as your positive mental visions.

As you practice paying closer attention to what you think and to how you feel, you expand your awareness or raise your level of consciousness.

This empowers you to recognize and let of unconscious self-sabotaging negative thought and feeling patterns. And as you do that, you overcome negative thinking for greater success.
