You want to have perfect cheerleading makeup and dance makeup. Don’t underestimate the importance of blush!

It’s important because we need to add dimension to the face after we have applied our foundation. Dance makeup and cheerleading makeup are different than everyday makeup, because the intense stage lighting and the distance of the performer from the audience is going to make our faces look flatter. We need to “put the cheekbones back on”. Blush not only gives you a healthy look, but it creates definition in the face. Blush is an important part of your dance makeup or cheerleading makeup routine and should not be missed!

How do I apply perfect blush?

The four most common errors I see:

• Not enough blush – top of the list! If you can barely see it when under bathroom lighting, it’ll disappear when you get onstage or get outside on the field. Dance makeup and cheerleading makeup need to be applied a little more aggressively.

• Punk rocker stripes on the sides of the face make the face look harsh. We want to boost what you’ve got, not draw on what we think cheekbones should look like!

• Clown circles on the apples of the cheeks. Too much! And don’t forget to blend!

• Blush that starts above the cheekbone and colors in the whole side of
the face all the way down to the jawbone. That means you used a blush brush that was TOO big!

Here are the steps for perfect blush application:

• Find your cheekbone with your fingers. You want to enhance the dimension that is created if a light were to shine down on you from above and a shadow were to appear underneath that cheekbone.

• Dip your blush brush in the powder, and tap off the excess.

• Starting at the hairline, brush blush under the cheekbone forward and blend up around the apples of the cheeks. Do not let blush go lower than your lip line.

• Never blow on makeup brushes. The moisture in your breath creates a
warm/humid environment in the bristles for bacteria to grow.

Never use a large powder brush or complexion brush with your blush. Always use a designated blush brush. It shouldn’t be too big or too small – a medium sized brush is best.
For young dancers it is especially important to create a soft blended blush line because a severe blush line will make a dancer’s face appear older, more mature.
You need the perfect blush brush that you can grab and go with. Include it in your makeup kit so that your cheerleading makeup and dance makeup will be perfect each time you apply it!
