As many of you probably know, cannabidiol (CBD) is the ‘other’ cannabinoid in cannabis that confers immense therapeutic benefits without imparting any sort of ‘high’ to the user.

The implications of this are monumental (hence the current and ongoing explosion in CBD’s popularity with people from all walks of life), as people have known about the healing powers offered by cannabis for thousands of years - but the inability to separate the ‘high’ from the medicinal benefits presented a significant roadblock.

These days, whether it’s due to drug testing, increased paranoia/anxiety, or a general desire to be happy, whole, and clear-headed without the haze of THC weighing you down - many people do not want to be high. That’s not to say being stoned is innately a bad thing, but just as one example, when you become a parent (as I have) being high becomes much less attractive, as you must be on-point 24/7 to ensure the health and well-being of your child.

Fortunately, with CBD, we can still enjoy the medicinal properties of cannabis without the beleaguering intoxication.

How Did I Find Out About CBD?

It had been over a month since the cessation of a years-long cannabis-consumption habit, and I was at a friend’s loft in Encinitas, California. As we discussed various controversial and health-related issues (as we loved to do), he mentioned that he had a bottle of CBD oil from NuLeaf Naturals that he’d picked up from a health expo.

Up to that point, I’d done quite a bit of research about CBD, but remained somewhat skeptical as in my mind, without THC present there’s not much to care about.

Well, I took a dropper full in the mouth, held it under my tongue, and was a bit nervous to see would unfold. After about twenty minutes, I noticed a subtle but definite shift in my consciousness. I felt...calm. But not high? It was bizarre and disorienting, after smoking cannabis to get high for so many years, it took some time to acclimate to this new way of being.

Considering that at the time, I was dealing with severe social anxiety (not just the kind you joke about with your friends), I was in a good place to put all the CBD hype to the test. I must say, it did not disappoint, and exceeded all my expectations by a longshot.

I feel grateful to have tried NuLeaf Naturals as my first CBD, as it is undoubtedly a premium product, and quite a bit better than most other CBD oils on the market.

What Are the Effects of CBD?

I ultimately landed on Joy Organics as my preferred CBD (which my wife also takes daily, and my daughter occasionally) as their growing and processing techniques are unlike anything I’ve seen elsewhere.

Over time, I’ve found that it’s best to keep the dose of CBD fairly low and take it one to two times a day. The effects are cumulative, and benefits may not be undeniable at first, but day after day subtle changes manifest and you’ll have that ‘aha!’ moment that you realize the CBD is indeed working.

The most common effects I experience with CBD are:

- Reduced or eliminated anxiety
- Dramatically enhanced/balanced digestion
- Better, deeper, more restful sleep
- Reduced physical pain and discomfort
- Enhanced overall feeling of well-being

Do I Recommend Others Try CBD?

100%. Do some reading about a condition called ‘Clinical Endocannabinoid Deficiency,’ and you’ll see why it’s almost always a good idea to supplement a healthy diet and lifestyle with a high-quality CBD oil.

We live in trying times, and our endogenous cannabinoid systems seem to be suffering from all the stress that is too familiar to all of us.

As always, consult with your healthcare provider before embarking on any natural products regimen! Live long and prosper.
