If you basically don’t want to do something, no one or no thing can motivate you to do it. Your motivation comes from inside you only.

In our society today, we have developed the habit of deferring the blame for what happens in our lives to another: She made me do it. My boss didn’t provide the right tools. That truck was going too fast and slammed into me. I can’t because my childhood was a mess. I was raised in a poor neighborhood. I’m not smart enough. I’m too fat. Nobody gives me a break.

The sooner we each realize that our motivation is a can-do engine that is internal to each of us and is started and stopped by our own desires, the sooner we can step into the success each of us thinks we want and deserve.

This idea is very important for your success, so I’m going to say it in another way in order that it will soak into your mentality with full meaning and you’ll see what you have been doing (or perhaps not doing) when it comes to motivation toward success.

When the fire inside you is lit by you, no one or no thing can ever extinguish it. Only you can feed it or snuff it out.

So, the next idea to look at is what do you truly want to accomplish in your one sweet life? What is your One Big Dream?

• Write down five steps you know you will take to make that dream materialize.
• Write down five fears, excuses, or negative thoughts that tell you that you cannot make the dream materialize.
• Choose which list of five you’d prefer to work with.

You are the motivator within you. You are the one who will anesthetize or feed each of those fears or excuses. You are the one who can make your own dream materialize. You can use your strong list of desires for more good to experience more good. That’s how I got to where I am today. I chose the list of steps to take.

• What do I want to accomplish today?
• What steps can I take to accomplish my desires?
• Am I willing to set my fears and excuses aside and take those steps?
