We often see others who get so wrapped up in what they are doing they forget about everything else and everyone else around them. We can get wrapped up in our thoughts. We can get wrapped up in our work. We can get wrapped up in our health issues. We can get wrapped up in our money situation. There are many daily distractions which can cause us to temporarily forget others and God because of what we are dealing with in the moment.
We may find ourselves faced with a decision to make about a loved one. We may own something that breaks down and puts a financial strain on us to repair. We may learn about a health issue that will change the routine of our lives. There are some things which will happen in our lives that will attempt to take us by surprise and change our thoughts and routines.
However, when we get distracted or wrapped up in our own little world, we begin to lose focus on what really is important. We may put ourselves and our needs before what God wants us to do and what others need from us. What we are dealing with is only temporary. There are people in the world who have dealt with worse than us. When we forget that, we become selfish and no good to others around us.
When we begin to feel like our problems are bigger than anything else or we find ourselves focusing on one area of our lives too much, we need to have a way to put our focus back on God. If we let things go for too long, we can get so removed from God and others it is harder to come back and do what it is important to God. When we let whatever is consuming us take over our lives, it is going to be hard to let it go and let God take over.
That is why we need to be continuously aware of what we are doing and how we are feeling. When we take time to step back and evaluate our day or even the last few hours, we can get a better picture of what our focus has been on and ask God to help us get back on track. We can create a habit of checking in with God morning, noon and night and review what has happened in our lives, we can better serve God and others.
Our situations happen for a reason. God wants us to lean on Him with our problems and our sorrows. He wants us to be strong and to use what we have to deal with to be an example for Him and to help others who may have the same situation. He wants us not to get so wrapped up in our work, our health or our finances that we don’t see what He is trying to teach us.
When we decide ahead of time we will focus on God before something major happens in our lives and stay aware of our actions and feelings throughout the day, God will teach us. When we cry out to Him morning, noon and night, He will keep us safe. He will help us through our major and minor tragedies so we can make a difference to others when He is ready. We must stay aware of Him morning, noon and night so that we are ready to make that difference.
Psalm 55:16-18 “But I will call on God, and the Lord will rescue me. Morning, noon, and night I cry out in my distress, and the Lord hears my voice. He ransoms me and keeps me safe from the battle waged against me, though many still oppose me.”
