Our beloved coffee has a lot of uses aside from perking us up on morning and at times when sleepiness creeps in. Among those other uses is the alleviation of the unwanted cottage cheese, orange peel or pin-cushioned look of cellulite. We can always make our own coffee body scrub to smooth out our dimply skin.

Yes, indeed, there are lots of body scrubs available in the market nowadays, but sometimes what hampers us from enjoying its benefits is its hefty price tag. And since most of us have a jarful of coffee grounds lying around the kitchen, making our own exfoliating body scrub is practical enough. Besides, caffeine can enhance the texture of the skin, as well as decrease the pronouncement of cellulite.

Before going to the specifics on how to make our own coffee body scrub, let’s tackle first the wide array of benefits caffeine can give to our body, particularly on the cellulite affected regions.

Caffeine is a diuretic, which means that it has the ability to draw water out from something. Note that caffeine intake and external application don’t produce the same results as far as cellulite is concerned. When taken in, caffeine’s diuretic property can ironically make the cellulite more visible. Why is this so? When ingested, caffeine will increase the water retention capacity of the subcutaneous cells. In contrast to applying topical cellulite treatment products that contain caffeine, the ingredient will draw water away from the cells.

Aside from being a diuretic, caffeine is also a blood vessel constrictor. This is particularly helpful to those who are suffering from varicose veins. Caffeine has the ability to shrink bulging blood vessels, a known contributor to cellulite and varicose vein formation.

So now that we know why caffeine is so useful, we are not prepared to make own homemade cellulite body scrub. This simple recipe is hassle free and only involves three ingredients where two of such can be easily found in the kitchen.
Massage oil (any type of massage oil will do)
Sea salt or raw sugar
Any brand of coffee grounds

All you need to do is to mix all the ingredients together in a bowl. And we are done!

If you want to enhance the effectiveness and smell of your homemade treatment for cellulite, you can add coarsely textured brown sugar, cinnamon, pure cane sugar, almond oil, apricot kernel oil, and/or vitamin E. Coarse brown sugar will help increase the exfoliating function of our homemade body scrub. You can add as much coarse brown sugar until your preferred texture is obtained.
