It is obvious that there are many natural disasters that could happen at any time to anyone of us. It is always the best idea to be prepared to meet these unforeseen disasters. Here is a large list of items you could include in your kit. See the bullet list at the end of the article for the most basic kit requirements.

Battery powered radio - emergency broadcast system may be the only source of reliable information during an emergency. Check batteries regularly or better yet get a wind up radio that do not require batteries.
Flashlight - check batteries regularly or better yet get a wind up radio that do not require batteries.
Personal records - birth certificates, insurance certificates, genealogy information, passports.
Plastic bags and ties - garbage containers, and substitute rain coat.
Disinfectant - bleach, Lysol, can be used to treat sewage, waste water. Be sure that the storage containers are unbreakable.
Paper cups, plates, bowls and disposable utensils - these are very helpful for conserving water and minimize contamination problems.
Paper towels
Soap - liquid soap that does not require water.
Feminine hygiene needs
Baby needs - disposable diapers, formula, medical prescriptions.
Medications for three days (72 hours) for each member of the family
Personal first aid kit - during an emergency or disaster public medical professionals will be overrun. Your personal first aid kit should be designed to treat minor injuries so that they do not become a major problems.
Water storage - general water storage is 1.5 Gallons per person per day.
Sleeping bags and bedrolls - wool blankets resist fire, they warm even when wet and they are less bulky than sleeping bags. There must be adequate and appropriate sleeping cover for every member of the family.
Fire extinguisher
Can opener - a manual type must be packed with any canned goods.
Utility knife - a sharp with a blade that is enclosed in the case is the safest type.
Crescent or adjustable wrench - they are useful in shutting off gas and water lines.
Extra change of clothing and underwear for each family member
Miscellaneous - small ax, heavy gloves, and matches stores in a waterproof unbreakable container.

Bullet list for the most basic 72 Hour Kit.
* Three days supply of water (one gallon per person, per day) and non-perishable food. (Remember to change food and water every six months).
* Eyeglasses, hearing aids, extra keys.
* First-aid kit, extra prescription medications, copies of prescriptions, other special medical items.
* Special supplies needed for babies or older adults.
* Important documents and records, photo ids, proof of residence.
* Cash (power outages mean banks and ATMs may be unavailable).
* Battery-operated radio and flashlight with extra batteries.
* Phone numbers of family and friends.
* Road maps, a travel plan, hotel reservations, list of places between your town and your destination where you can stop if the highways are clogged.
* Coolers for food and ice storage, paper plates, plastic utensils.
* Manual can opener, booster cables, tools.
* Blankets, pillows, sleeping bags and extra clothing.
* Toilet paper, cleanup supplies, personal hygiene products.
* Pet supplies (food, water and medicines).
