This in the first instance might sound something quite surprising but it is the fact which nobody can deny. It would be interesting to know that a blown bulb can be a reason for your vehicle to fail in the MOT test, but not a cracked window. Sometimes there is a situation when you might be issued a notice with a warning for getting the highlighted issues detected and rectified so that you can don’t fail in the next MOT test. Below are some of the interesting issues which cannot be held responsible for your car failing in the MOT test.

1. Brake pads: Every component installed in your car survive for a particular time and their performance starts diminishing as time passes, which of course is a natural process. Although, driving the car with completely worn brake pads can result not only in an accident but also can let your car fail in the MOT test. But, if the brake pads have a minimum level of 1.5 mm than you can still drive your car in the market. However, you will be given the warning of replacing them immediately as soon as their level goes down. Although the average duration of the brake pads is about 50,000 miles, depending upon the condition of the roads and your driving skills, they can worn even before the time.
2. Sounds coming from the clutch and gearbox: If you think that sounds from the gearbox and clutch can be responsible for failing your car in the MOT test, then you are mistaken. The unusual sounds from the engine, clutch or gearbox do not affect the condition of your car during the MOT test, until unless they do not spoil the environment or against the emission norms. Although, technically driving the car with rumbling sounds should be detected and rectified at the earliest, as ignorance can sometimes stop your car from driving in the middle of the road. Therefore, it is advised to get the clutch and gearbox repair immediately on time once you notice unusual sounds coming from your car, as this may be due to some defects in the transmission system.
3. Leakage of coolant: This might be surprising for you but the leakage of the fluids like engine oil, coolant, screenwash does not affect the results of the MOT test. According to the guidelines determined by DVSA, a vehicle can be considered for the failure in the MOT test only when the leaking fluid creates a pool of more than 75mm diameter on the floor in five minutes. Thus, small leakage does no effect the result of the MOT test.
4. Damaged exhaust pipe: The damaged exhaust pipe (s) also do not affect the results of the MOT test, until there is not a major leakage or they are unsafe from the emission point. A minute leakage of a hole in the exhaust pipe may be noted on the advisory note for getting the issue rectified to avoid any major problem in the future. But, yes the MOT testing center cannot let your car fail in the test.
5. Broken windscreen: Although the main objective of a windscreen is to offer a clear vision of the roads, and therefore it is recommended to keep the windscreen clean before driving. The cracks that occur in the diameter of less than 10 mm falling in the vision of the driver’s line will not let your vehicle fail in the MOT test, nor the cracks less than the 40mm diameter across the windscreen will cause your vehicle to fail in the test.

Apart from the above-mentioned issues, the problems like worn tyres or dented bumper can be responsible for the failure of your car in the MOT test.
