Smartphone users have a better idea of upcoming features in new OS by Google and Apple. As beta version of iOS 10 and Android Nougat (Android 7.0) was recently launched. The users seem to be pretty excited about new features and functionality.

In newer OS versions, both companies have chosen somewhat separate approaches to overcome previous bugs and issues. Android 7.0 and iOS 10 are shaping up forward thinking to bring excitement in application development world. Nevertheless, there are numerous features in which these operating systems can be differentiated.

Following is a comparison between iOS 10 and Android 7.0 in terms of features and functionality:

Interface:

Google and Apple have kept their interface design remarkably similar to their previous version Android Marshmallow and iOS 9 respectively. As Apple and Google have been providing world’s best UI design since their launch. So neither Google nor Apple is providing a whole new UI layout for their latest OS version.

However, in iOS 10, Apple is implementing 3D Touch in more advanced way. The interface enables the user to touch firmly on icons to place the widgets on home screen. This provides top iOS app developers with a quick access to interior functionality without opening the application. The iOS 10 has also provided new widgets that are accessible with swipe and pattern lock services.

In Android 7.0 users are able to run two applications simultaneously in landscape mode using “recent” menu. The users can also drag and drop different items between them. Despite having larger screens, Apple has not launched screen cascading function yet.

Notifications:

Notifications are generally part of UI. For Android and iOS app development, notifications are considered as a major part. Android and Apple are working hard to handle notifications.

In iOS 10, 3D touch has deeply involved handling different notifications. It allows users to expand notifications to create quick responses and other actions. The notification menu is now simplified and stands alone for iPhone devices.

On the other hand, Android 7.0 notifications drawn up more of the screen. The screen associated with a change of font provides more standard information. The Android notification menu also provides quicker access to favorite setting toggles. Google has added the feature to stack the notifications which are already available for iOS 10. Users can bundle the notifications together based on different applications.

Google and Android have also added expansion of quick reply. For example, in Whatsapp users can reply directly through the notification menu. And finally, iOS has added “clear all” option for the notifications.

Messaging:

Apple is largely improving iMessage in iOS 10 as social media applications like Whatsapp, Snapchat etc are dominating the application market. With iMessage in iOS 10, users will be able to cover message threads with animations, emoticons, and icons. Users can also add handwritten messages to make messaging more attractive. iMessage will have scope to implements own third-party app into it. This will allow users to share huge information with their contacts without opening the particular application. Also, Apple users can also make an advanced task like online payments within the iMessage.

Google has also done remarkable changes to messaging app. It has launched a standalone Allo messaging app. Users can able to do things like Google searches, online booking within Allo. This app improves its vocabulary based on replies and photos shared through it. Over the time it suggests automatic replies based on vocabulary.

Both Android 7.0 and iOS 10 assures interesting and extended features in their messaging applications.

Photo Management:

Apple has improved the photo management feature in iOS 10. The photos in device automatically grouped together according to the faces. The device then automatically create slideshow from related photos. This feature is initially introduced by Google Photos.

Assistant Software:

When comparison come to assistant software, Apple might be first with Siri. But Google has also improved the performance of assistant software with Google Now. Google and Apple have significantly improved speech recognition capability of their assistant software. In iOS 10, Siri can finally open third party applications for the users. For example, top iOS app developers can access the non-Apple application through Siri-like sending WeChat message. Google is also upgrading Google Now on Tap tool. Developers are also implementing Google Now into messaging app Allo. Android users can actually chat with software assistant by asking questions in a more natural way.
