Tsum Valley is a secret Himalayan pilgrimage valley situated in northern Gorkha of Nepal. This secret Himalayan Valley is rich in ancient art, culture, and religion. Tsum Valley is one of the world’s remote Himalayan Valley which was also a restricted region until 2008.
The trek to the Tsum Valley takes you into the majestic surroundings of the Ganesh Himal, Sringi Himal, and Boudha Himal ranges. The local people are most of Tibetan origin and speak unique dialects. Trails are untidily scattered with artistic stone and lined with Mani walls made of thousands of stone slabs.
The famous Kyims Lang, a pilgrimage circuit in the central Trans-Himalaya is well known for its center of learning and meditation. The circuit crosses the Tusm valley the Manaslu area in Nepal and the southern parts of Nepal.
The Manaslu region is still less exposed in comparison to other tourist areas, with relatively virgin and less beaten parts in comparison to the most popular region. The Tusm people have their way of family life, which may be quite an uprising for many outsiders. All brothers in the family are married to a single girl.
The first half of the trek is done by climbing down to Budi Gandaki Valley on a good path through a mix of dense forest, terraced fields, and hill villages. As we leave the main Manaslu Trail for the Tsum Valley suddenly we get a feeling of entering truly into the hidden valley.
The valley is uniquely rich in wildlife, especially the Himalayan Thar. The valley also boasts some unique and historic monasteries including Rachen Gumba and Mu Gumba, which lie on a pretty plateau nested in the lap of the valley. While on the trek we also pass through the alpine forest and Glacier River, and enjoy the warm hospitality of ethnic people.
