The gist of online marketing strategy for online business is your keyword selection. People turn to the Internet and type in a keyword or phrase. i.e." how to invest wisely", "how to cure acne" "how to lose weight" to search for the information they need.

Therefore using the right keywords or phrases on your website, blog, or in your articles allows you to achieve greater success than those who neglect the use of keywords. Good keyword placement and appropriate density are the main factors in deciding how your site scores with the major search engines.

This is also known as your organic traffic or search engine traffic and is accomplished by Search Engine Optimization (SEO) for your keywords.

If you do it correctly, chances of you getting a page one listing when people do their searches would be higher. This will bring you free organic traffic to your website or blog. On the other hand if you do it wrong your site can end up on page 400, where no one will stupid enough to scroll to.

So how many times should you use your keywords to please the search engines?

Although looking for the right keywords or keyword research can be time consuming and in boring the tools and the subsequent market research are very useful and can determine success or failure of your Internet marketing. Google, which dominates the search engine war, provides useful keyword research tools for free.

Many experts find that keyword should be between 2% and 5% of your article or web page. This some times could be a real pain when you are writing for your sales page.

A much easier way to get the frequency or density right for your website or articles without having to count them over and over is to have a simple “formula” such as using keyword once near the front of your title, twice in the first paragraph, and then once in each of the following paragraphs and finally, twice in the last paragraph.

Some keyword research tools provide a list of say, 100 to 200 related keyword phrases while indicating the type of competition you have for each one.
This enables you to add in different keywords and see how they rank. The idea is to find keywords with high search results but low competition. This is also how you could find profitable products and niches.

Another way to help you to find keywords are I your blog and emails. One of the best sources of article topics that are usually search engine optimized are shown in the phrases that your customers use when they ask questions about your products or services and the posts they leave on your blog or chat forum. Examining these materials may also give you more targeted keywords and key phrases.

Finally, how do you determine whether the keywords you have selected could work effectively in your online business? One way is to test your keywords with a PPC (Pay Per Click) campaign. After you have done your initial keyword research, create a landing page with those keywords and set up a PPC campaign. You could then use an analytic tool to find out how many people land on your page and with what search terms. Using a PPC campaign prior to launching your complete SEO campaign could help you narrow down your keyword list so that you would be able use only the most effective ones for your online business.
