We've all heard of subliminal messages and their supposed power to influence the way a person thinks, but are subliminal messages really as powerful as some people would have you believe?

Well, in our opinion, yes and no. You see, it's all well and good to assume that repeating subliminal messages to the mind on a regular basis will influence the way we think, but considering that the brain processes billions of pieces of information in every second, how can we be sure that these messages are even noticed, let alone convincing enough to influence our thinking?

The truth is, we can't, and because some people are more suggestible than others, we must give the brain more reason to latch on to the messages we are feeding it...

To do this, we ideally need to create the right mental environment for the subliminal messages to be noticed and absorbed into out minds. The following steps can help:

1) State your reason for using subliminal messages. In other words, why are you using a particular subliminal CD or MP3? What is your end goal? For example, if you suffer from agoraphobia, you might say (out loud) something like, "I am using this subliminal CD to help me overcome my fear of open spaces" each time before you listen.

2) Use affirmations to support the work you are doing with the subliminal audio. As an example, and to continue from above, you might say something like, "I am comfortable in open spaces...I feel better every day." Remember, however, that when using affirmations, you should try to cultivate the feeling of what you are saying, otherwise your words may be too weak to be effective.

3) Give permission for the subliminal messages to take effect. You can do this by simply instructing your mind to accept the subliminal suggestions, and to make any changes necessary for your highest good.

4) Expect good things to happen. In the end, you have the power to give power to the subliminal suggestions, or render them completely useless. It really is your choice!

One thing to consider, is that the mind is not silly, and just because we cannot consciously hear what is being said on a subliminal recording does not mean that we are tricking it into changing us for the better. In fact, many experts believe that it is much easier for the mind to accept a negative suggestion than a positive one; probably due to the fact that most of us have been programmed to think negatively since birth.

What we really should do then, is form an alliance with our phenomenal minds, and simply use subliminal technology to assist us in making our desired changes a reality. A good subliminal recording can certainly help us to achieve success, but it can't do anything without our full conscious and unconscious co-operation.
