A holiday in Sydney is just like any other holiday destination with the exception of lots more things to do. In addition to that, you also have to think about the fact that they are heading into summer now and everyone is gearing up for lots of sunny days and plenty of time being spent outside. You can get to experience the true essence of Australia and Sydney simply by being there at the right time. You might have just missed the whale watching season, or you might have wanted to catch the Biennale which only happens every two years, but even though you have missed out on those really big events you can still get your fair share of exciting things to do in the city.
Greater Sydney is broken up into districts if you will and they are pretty much based on where they are located. The northern part of the city is known as the North Shore, the Eastern part is known surprisingly as the Eastern Suburbs and the same can be said for Southern Sydney. The majority of the population has been concentrated around central Sydney with a lot of the outlying areas tending towards quieter residential suburbs mixed with commercial centres that offer the suburban traveller a much needed break from the hustle and bustle of the city centre. Things also tend to work out a lot cheaper out that way, and you will quite often find a Sydney hotel out there that is less crowded and just as comfortable.
If you are looking for interesting things to do out that way, then all you really have to do is head out and catch a bus or a train to get to where you need to be. You can head back into the city to visit the Aquarium or the zoo, or you can head straight for The Docks, where you can sit back and have a few drinks with your travel companions. You can enjoy a bit of live music there and take a walk around looking at some of the shops to take back a couple souvenirs if you want. There are also the usual tourist attractions like the Harbour tours and a visit to the famous opera house, but you could always just spend your days soaking up the sun on Bondi Beach or catching a few waves in some of the best surfing spots in the world. No matter what you do, make sure you book your stay early to avoid any disappointment.
