That old James Brown song is playing through my head … you know the one I mean: Whoa-oa-oa! I feel good, I knew that I would, now I feel good, I knew that I would, now So good, so good”.

I feel happy today … So, why is that so hard to admit or even say out loud? It used to be that the suffering was somewhere else. Those natural disasters -- weren’t we always grateful that it was happening somewhere else and to someone else? But with all the fluctuations in the economy, unhappy events and unhappy people are coming closer and closer to home and work. And, boy, does misery love company.

When happy just hints at coming in the front door, misery flounces in stalking and hounding us until we relent to the negativity. And, we jump right in to the crowded pool of melancholy swimmers.

Well, there’s a secret to getting back to the happy place. GET OUT OF THE POOL. It’s that simple. You can swim … so find the ladder and climb out. The rest of those melancholy swimmers will try to grab your ankles and pull you back into the pool of misery. But, you’re not responsible for their happiness … only yours. So, let go of the guilt and shake it off like a dog shaking off its bath water.

And, like most things … if you lead they will follow … So, take charge of your own happiness and you’ll find that others will soon follow suit.

Now, go ahead and sing it loud and strong:
Whoa-oa-oa! I feel good, I knew that I would, now I feel good, I knew that I would, now So good, so good”.
