Extrasensory perception, as the name suggests, is the awareness or perception of information that is not delivered by our primary five senses. This phenomenon is popularly known as the sixth sense phenomenon. Pinning down the actual effectiveness of this kind of perception with conviction is not possible in this day and age. The reason for this is that sixth sense related phenomena have never been scientifically proven. There is no concrete evidence that this kind of perception actually exists.
Scientists look to prove most of their hypothesis and theories in laboratories and this is where the block comes in. Extrasensory perception is a completely mind related phenomenon. Even scientists and psychologists will admit to the fact that their knowledge of the mind is not comprehensive enough to come to any conclusion on its effectiveness. In spite of the fact that our knowledge and technology is advancing at the rate of knots, it is in our mind where all the mysteries lie.
Looking for the effectiveness and proof of existence of sixth sense in laboratory conditions is the fundamental mistake many people make. While a lot of believers of this kind of perception are studying the topic under parapsychology, they are yet to find substantial evidence. However, the best place to quantify the effectiveness of extrasensory perception is in the mind of an individual with spiritual knowledge. These individuals believe in holistic health and all-round development of the mind and the soul. They strongly believe in the sixth sense and try looking at life through the third eye to get all the answers. It is due to these energy healing techniques that a lot of people believe in them so strongly.
The sixth sense is all about tapping areas of the mind that are blocked due to a million worldly distractions. In this case, the five conventional senses disrupt our connection with our inner mind keeping us away from the spiritual aspect of life. Though the scientific approach to life surely has its benefits, looking for the effectiveness of extrasensory perception with this mind bend is not the best idea. When people look to sharpen their sixth sense, they are often asked to meditate. This helps them disconnect from the world and its rigid ideas of life. Since the mind is still and free of any preconceived notions, it is able to pick up the more subtle things going on in the world.
The fact of the matter is that even in the clutter of everyday life, we can find signs of the effectiveness of sixth sense. Has it ever happened to you that at the moment that you are thinking of a person, the phone rings and it is that very same person calling? It is very easy to dismiss this event as a mere coincidence and nothing to do with extrasensory perception. The sad aspect about this phenomenon is that there is no concrete evidence to prove or disprove this line of thought. So until the day that evidence is established, we, as humans, can only guess.
