Fingerplay is a hand movement or action coordinated with words or singing to engage and sustain kids' interest. Kids often try to imitate the activities and actions of others. This helps them to be a active listeners and they can control attention on their teacher or parents and enjoy the learning session. Fingerplay enhances memory development, fine motor co-ordination and recalling skills in little learners.

In most of the schools, teacher introduces rhymes and new concepts to children through fingerplay as it's fun and interesting way of teaching. Five Little monkeys
Five Little Monkeys rhyme is usually accompanied by a sequence of gestures that mimic the lyrics of the song. Each successive verse consecutively counts down from the starting number. To enjoy the fingerplay, hold up the number of fingers to match the verse. Now rest elbow on other hand and bounce arm up and down. Isn't that a fun?

This Little Piggy
This Little Piggy is a best-known kids' song and fingerplay. It is usually counted out on toddler's toes, each line corresponding to a different toe, which generally begins with the big toe and ends with the little toe. At first line of song, wiggle the "big" toe, at second, wiggle the "long" toe, at third line, wiggle the "middle" toe, at fourth, wiggle the "ring" toe and at the last line, wiggle the "pinky" toe and tickle the bottom of the foot.

Incy Wincy Spider
Incy Wincy Spider is another popular nursery rhyme and fingerplay, that tells about the adventures of a little spider as it ascends, descends, and reascends the waterspout. The rhyme is accompanied by a sequence of movements that mimic the words of the song. In the fingerplay, alternately touch the thumb of one hand to the index finger of the other. Now hold both hands up and wiggle the fingers as the hands are lowered. Sweep the hands from side to side. Then raise the hands and sweep to the sides to form a semicircle and wiggle fingers upwards.

Round and Round The Garden
Round and Round The Garden song is sometimes accompanied by fingerplay. In the fingerplay, different actions are performed by an adult on a child and vice-versa. The child/adult first lightly strokes his or her index finger in slow circles around the child/adult's upturned palm. With each "step", walks their index and middle finger up the arm, firstly to the elbow and then to the shoulder. Finally after a short pause before the word "tickle", they tickle under the arm.
