After the 9 month long wait and anticipation, it is finally time. The moment of truth, where we are about to bring a live into this planet and hoping for the best. All the hormones in our body cultivated and grown over the 9 month period is flushed out the second the baby comes. This is a huge change in a mother's life - biologically as well as emotionally and sure does take a good while of getting used to.

Post Natal depression can affect different women differently, some feeling it very much, some now and then and some not at all. During this period it is important to voice what you are feeling with your GP or Naturopath and know that you are not alone. Most women go through this and it will pass. Getting help and talking to friends and family can come a long way in helping you through this tough period. Most women find that talking to their partner is not very beneficial as talking to someone who has been though the same and able to provide good advice. So in addition to speaking to our partners, mothers and friends can also be a good support in the healing process.

Once we have dealt with this tricky matter, it is also very important to give our social lives a moment as well. It is all about the baby when the baby comes, but in order to be efficient in our motherly duties, we need to ensure that our needs are met. A break from the workforce is a great way for us to be there to nurture our new born, but as much as it is about the baby, it is about the mother too! Invest in an easy to manoeuvre pram which releases you from being house bound. Try to get out of the house a couple of hours a day - this could be going for a walk in the park, going for a browse at the shopping centre, coffee and conversations with friends and other mums.

It is also important for new mothers to up their energy levels and strength training while toning our bodies. Most of us would have let ourselves go during pregnancy and this would be a good time to start working on our bodies and feeling great while getting back in form. The gym can be a great place for you to take some time for yourself and feel absolutely fresh when you are finished. Most gyms offer free creche facilities with toys and professional care takers to keep little ones busy while mothers can do their thing.

This could be a great time for you to get back on your yoga, pilates, weight training, jog or whatever you enjoy and have a refreshing steam and sauna before you return to your gorgeous baby. Being a mother is an absolutely memorable experience, enjoy this period by making sure you focus on your wellbeing while providing for your baby - if you are happy and content you can transfer the same energy to your child.
