Extrasensory perception otherwise called sixth sense has always been a topic of debate. Many feel this is myth, some feel it is coincidence of physical factors, and some believe it is an extreme medical condition and look to get the best out of it. There are holistic health sciences who are putting it to best use.

There are many times in real life things that we perceive happen. Just like the phone rings when you just expected it and for surprise it is the same person who you expected the call from. You just started humming a song which you thought is playing on radio, you switch the radio on and you are surprised to near the song played. This may be coincidence or super consciousness. But for people for whom this can happen frequently and at will it is a serious subject.

Since this is a subject with very complicated physics and biological facts there has been very little success in proving it as a science which can be measured, monitored, and practiced. But everything that exists is not scientifically proved. There are incidents, and experiments that are happening around the world which is open to all to see and experience the extrasensory perception. The existence of sixth sense seems to be real but not proved as science.

There are ancient cultures and indigenous groups among whom these psychic abilities have been noted as communal practice and continue to happen in present. Much of these seem to be used to communicate with ancestors and spirits. This ability in people has been termed as second sight in ancient times. They are also termed witches and were victimized or burnt. In other case the ability is used to perform energy healing techniques .

These are subjects of speculation and research by many top scientists in areas such as quantum theory, and parapsychology are undertaken. The idea that extrasensory perception and similar abilities are sort of real phenomena has created respect for the subject and researchers.

Many studies on meditation and hypnosis took place in the past. The recent studies involve performing tests on volunteers, mostly of people who thought they have extrasensory perception have shown some statistical results which help scientists believe it exists and invest further. It is noted that in this tests people who thought or believed they have sixth sense has scored high then the sceptics or normal people.

After various tests and experiments conducted in the past parapsychologists have accepted the phenomena and have subdivided into types which are categorised based on the kind of energy or element used to perceive the unseen. The classifications are telepathy, Clairsentience, Clairaudience, Clairalience, Claircognizance, and Clairgustance.

Existence of extrasensory perception though said to exist and explained by categories and differentiated by degrees, it is still not accepted. Many mainstream scientists reject the idea of sixth sense. Some groups have taken interest in proving it is not real and have taken help of neuroscience to prove the same.
