Libido in males has caused untold suffering and many are quietly killing themselves afraid to be noticed. The society has it own demands upon subjects of this problem besides the intimacy from the life partners. The causes of diminished sex drive are many in this world of today and are increasing alarmingly. But first what is libido? Libido in simple terms is sexual desire. This is the energy that brings about the urge to engage in sex; it also brings about the appetitive behavior of both males and females towards each other. Many psychoanalysts have given many names to describe the biology behind it; at the end of the day, it is a drive towards the opposite sex. It is much more pronounced in males than females.

Libido being energy has a source and an exciter. A male hormone called testosterone is the chemical behind libido generation, this is the main exciter; low levels of this hormone has broken very many homes lucky are those who have resorted to medication to ameliorate the problem. This is a sex hormone produced by the testes; it brings about the development of male secondary characteristics - deep voice, muscles, and hairs on the skin surface bone mass, fat distribution, development of scrotum, prostate, etc - and also its sustenance for many years in life. It is the presence of this hormone that brings about the desire to have sex, otherwise the mandate of procreation would be in jeopardy. Sexual activity is directly proportional to age and testosterone production combined. This hormone weans out as age advances; hampering libido completely.

A wide range of factors have been isolated that bring about low or complete absence of libido; these have been broken into psychological and physical factors. The psychological factors are traceable to circumstances of the situation like emotions, depression, stress, and noise, loss of intimacy and lack of privacy. Others include fatigue, anxiety, sexual abuse and lack of love or attraction, lost attention, body odor and general physic. The amicable environment at hand that should bring about the act of love making matters; and every second of it can bring harmony or disaster because of this problem. No matter what happens, all these issues count resulting in anticlimax of all the events of love making.

Stress is associated with today's lifestyle; there is no doubt about this. Everyone has a confused daily routine of an unmanageable jumbled up atmosphere. What does this mean? No good sleep and no rest resulting in low production of the target hormone. The product of this comes without saying - low drive towards your partner. With time it adds up to depression related behavior; followed by medication. Drugs also assert their own demands and both the sickness and the treatment result in hormonal imbalances resulting in low production of testosterone.

Diseases like high blood pressure, kidney infections, diabetes and others that necessitate constant follow ups are known to affect production of testosterone a great deal. The drug treatment for many kinds of diseases has been linked to this scenario.

Erectile dysfunction, infertility, delayed puberty, testicular tumors; hypothalamus or pituitary disorders come in as important indicators that often became basic first line symptoms of low sexual drive. It causes embarrassment putting the victim in an awkward position if he gets to a situation where love making might be demanded. This creates fear of non performance leading to signs of withdrawal behavior in any relationship; courtship therefore becomes impossible for fear of the outcome, thus reducing the urge completely.
