With the advances in social media and communication technologies, we are becoming increasingly conscious about our lifestyle choices, following which the decision to whether engage in or abstain from sexual activity too is emerging as one of the crucial challenges for today’s youth owing to the confusion on one point, which is, “Can you really live a happy life without sex?”

Regarding this question, there are multiple views in society:

●In the context of the worldly life, sex is often seen as a pleasurable activity, which can temporarily relieve stress and give a sense of satisfaction.

●From a spiritual viewpoint however, it is celibacy that is highly valued on the path to eternal bliss.
Amongst various spiritual disciplines too,
osome say practice of celibacy is a must; and thus is forced upon as a compulsory component of life,
owhile others like Akram Vignan (the practical spiritual science for today’s age) encourage individuals to choose the path of Brahmacharya (celibacy) with right understanding, such that one makes this choice willingly, and not on account of any express or implied force or compulsion.

1.Worldly Happiness:
Param Pujya Dada Bhagwan, an enlightened being, explains that pleasures of worldly life stems from the fulfilment of our worldly aims. For example, if we study hard for an exam and get good grades, or if we finally go on a holiday we have been saving up for, we feel happy. But does this kind of happiness last? What happens if we fail in the next exam, or get robbed on the holiday? That very happiness turns into pain. This is the nature of worldly happiness! Sexual gratification belongs to this very category.

Having said that, those who have the desire of the pleasures of worldly life should get married. It is okay to have sex with your wife, even the Lord allows that; but not with anyone else. Pre-marital and extra-marital sex are totally wrong practices and should be strictly avoided. When one engages in illicit sex, he / she has to suffer enormous painful miseries in this life, and even thereafter. So, if ever such a thing has happened,
●one must confess this before the Living Gnani, who is an Enlightened being; so that he can show you the right path of rescue from untoward consequences.
●one must ask for forgiveness with profuse, inner remorse, for having indulged in such act, and
●one should firmly vow to not indulge in any illicit sex ever again.
●Most important, one must get married and remain sincere to the married partner.
Dadashri advises that one should marry for the sake of love and not to satiate your hunger for sex. One who cares for love can easily live a happy life without sex, they will not mind it at all. But for one who has hunger for sex, with any type of hunger, how can one live a happy life?

Param Pujya Dada Bhagwan says, “If there is an intense love then there is a worldly life for him. Sita and Rama were married. When Sita was abducted, Rama's entire consciousness was absorbed in Sita and Sita's in Rama. They were not able to have sex for fourteen years, yet their attention was always riveted in each other. This is called a marriage. Those who are married must never look at any other person sexually. If it happens, one must ask for forgiveness before God and decide never to let it happen again.”

2.Eternal happiness:
Eternal happiness is permanent, for it is derived from one’s own Self, the real Self, which is the Soul! Owing to the ignorance of the Self, we believe that really, “I am the body” and therefore one thinks about having sex. However, when one attains Self-Realization, the conviction changes from ‘I am the body’ to really ‘I am a Pure Soul’, and one begins to experience eternal bliss, which is the intrinsic property of the Pure Soul.

Today, we have a stepless path to Self-Realization called Akram Vignan, which is a direct shortcut to the bliss of the Self. Here, the Living Gnani (the Enlightened One), within just two hours, graces us with Gnan (Self-Realization)!!! Thousands have received this grace so far, and people continue to do so even now.

In this kaliyug, current era of the time cycle, characterized by a progressive decline in spiritual knowledge and moral deterioration, it is very difficult to practice brahmacharya (live life without sex). Our Gnan (Self-Realization) is the ocean of bliss and therefore one’s practice of brahmacharya is possible. What is the reason for abrahmacharya and sexual indulgence? It is due to the fire of inner restlessness and discontentment. To quench this fire of restlessness and discontent within, one indulges in transient pleasures of sex. Because of this Gnan there is not a problem for you for moksha, but if there is brahmacharya along with this Gnan, the resultant bliss is boundless and eternal. - Param Pujya Dada Bhagwan.

The kind of happiness one gets after sex is, both transient (does not last long) and deceptive (the sense of pleasure resulting in some or the other form of pain). Pujya Dadashri explains that if one were to see all the ways in which sex is unpleasant and filthy, one will automatically be repelled from sexual thoughts.

On the other hand, living a life without sex yields brilliant results. Those who practice brahmacharya (celibacy) have a wonderful mind and their body always remains healthy. They never succumb to adversities. No matter how severe the difficulties are, brahmacharya always provides a great safe side. With brahmacharya, you are able to keep your commitments and accomplish your worldly aims; you can achieve whatever you wish to, and can easily progress in the direction you choose to.
The best part is, you experience eternal bliss of the Self within! Thus, with the help of Gnan (Self-Realization) and staying under the guidance of the Gnani (the Enlightened One), one can live a very happy life, free from the torments of sexuality, in the pure and permanent bliss of the Self!!

Author's Bio:

Ambalal M. Patel was a civil contractor by profession. In June 1958, spontaneous Self-Realization occurred within Ambalal M. Patel. From this point on, Ambalal became a Gnani Purush, and the Lord that manifest within him became known as Dada Bhagwan. A Gnani Purush is One who has realized the Self and is able help others do the same. Param Pujya Dada Bhagwan used to go from town to town and country-to-country to give satsang (spiritual discourse) and impart the knowledge of the Self, as well as knowledge of harmonious worldly interactions to everyone who came to meet him. This spiritual science, known as Akram Vignan, is the step-less path to Self-realization.
