It may sound silly, but many beauty experts will attest to the fact that the shape and style of your eyebrows can, in fact, make you look younger and/or thinner. The way you shape and style your eyebrows should depend on the shape of your face. With the proper eyebrow plucking, waxing and/or penciling, it’s possible to enhance the shape of your cheekbones so you achieve the ideal look for your face and physique. So whether you have a round, square or long face, consider the following tips to make sure your brows aren’t doing you any disservices.

Try Thicker Eyebrows to Enhance a Chubby or Round Face

Some ladies may assume that thin eyebrows are always the most glamorous look, but they really only work well on a square-shaped face. If you have a rounder or broader face shape, or if you are carrying a few extra pounds, you should try to achieve a thick but neatly groomed eyebrow. Only tweeze stray eyebrow hairs, allowing your natural growth to remain intact, and apply some colorless gel to streamline the shape. Look at Oprah Winfrey’s eyebrows if you need some inspiration.

Try Thinner Eyebrows for a Square Face

If you have a square or angular face, try to achieve eyebrows that arch right above the eye to take attention away from your severe angles and square jaw. Achieve the look by tweezing out the inferior eyebrow section to create an arch that leads above the iris to the temple. For an extra sweep of sophistication, try cutting the superior part of the brow to a short length, but don’t cut too much! Look at Jennifer Garner’s brows for inspiration.

Try an In-between Brow for a Long Face

If you have a longer face, you can even it out with a moderate amount of tweezing and shaping to broaden your features and draw attention to the sides of your face. The ideal eyebrow for a long face goes up slightly at the exterior, pointing to the temple above the iris before going down. Start tweezing at the start of the inferior brow section above the iris and go to your eye’s exterior corner. Fill in any missing spots in your brows with a pencil that matches the color of your hair. If you need some inspiration, look at Nicole Kidman’s eyebrows.
