Blue light therapy involves the use of a lamp or light source that emits bright blue light - that is - light of a certain frequency, the wavelength of which is part of the visible spectrum of light at 405 to 426 nm. Blue light treatment is a United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved procedure - primarily for the treatment of acne condition on the face and the back (most commonly where acne is found) and an important fact about this treatment that it requires no pills, no medical cream or other substance. Blue light is also considered effective for other skin-related conditions.

Acne and other skin related conditions can also be treated at home, which is a much cheaper alternative to clinic sessions. Portable blue light devices come in many shapes and sizes and can be used in the comfort of your own home; for a fraction of the cost of going to the dermatologist for regular sessions. Such devices are portable - which makes it easy to carry them around with you while travelling.

For Acne

It involves treatment sessions a few times a week for 15-20 minutes each, and helps clear up acne - the light itself reacts with Porphyrins in the P. acnes bacteria; which readily absorb the energy, destroying the bacteria as it does so. Acne bacteria found in the lesions has been seen to reduce by up to 80% within a few treatment sessions and is effective to keep the condition away over a longer term. Some treatments require the use of a photosensitizing solution which allows the light to be more readily absorbed by the skin.

Spider veins

These are enlarges flesh colored, purple or red veins that appear on the surface of the skin and appear on the legs. They are caused by the collection of blood in weaker arteries, enlarging them so that they appear on the surface of the skin. This is a common problem effecting 55% of the women and 45% of the men (in the US). Blue light therapy can help shrink these veins back to their normal size, making their presence fade from the surface of the skin, however this takes place over a longer period than for acne reduction and requires patient use.

Stretch marks

This is probably the most common skin condition and a cause of concern for millions of people all over the world. As blue light is effective in treating problems that cause a change in skin pigmentation, it can be very effective in treating stretch marks - and is most effective when used along with other types of treatments such as creams and will reduce the appearance of the stretch marks on the skin.
