Indigestion is an ailment which is a common occurrence nowadays, owing mainly to improper diet and lifestyle imbalance. This particular malady that generally presents with weakening of the normal digestion tends to get carried on to years all together taking the form of a chronic and distressing disease.

Ayurvedic Name of the disease of Indigestion is Ajirana. Six types of the disease have been specified

• Born out of vitiation of Vatta or air body humor called Vishtabbdha Ajirana.

• Born out of vitiation of Pitta or fire humor called Vidagdha Ajirana.

• Born out of vitiation of the phlegm or Kapha called Aama Ajirana.

• When the meal is not digested properly, then Rasshesha Ajirana results.

• When it taken the whole day to digest the meal, it is Dinpakia Ajirana.

• Sometimes there prevails natural indigestion of the previous meal. This is termed as Prakrita Ajirana.

Black Pepper – Ayurveda herb for Indigestion

The Latin name of the herb is Piper nigrum and the popular Hindi synonym is Kali Mirch. In Sanskrit, black pepper is called be names Krishna (the fruit being black in colour), Vellaja (the herb being in form of vines) and Ushana (it being bitter in taste). Fruit is the part of the herb that we use as condiment and also in form of medicine. Medicinally the recommended dosage of black pepper is half to one gram and it is advised to be crushed or powered just before use so as to attain inclusive advantage.

• Ayurveda recommends black pepper as natural cure for digestive maladies.

• Ayurveda counsels black pepper also to be a wonderful detox agent.

• Black pepper is regarded to be a herb that aids in opening as well as cleaning the entire channels of the body, extracting body wastes or accumulated toxins from the same. This is mainly due to the herb being hot in potency and pungent in taste.

Properties of black pepper

The dried and shriveled fruit of back pepper is bestowed with natural characteristics of being bitter in taste as well as after-taste, light and robust and hot in potency. Also, Black Pepper is rich in Vitamin A & B and contains minerals like Calcium, Iron and Phosphorous. Usage of Black Pepper for Indigestion

It is an ailment of the gastric system in which the patient suffers from heaviness of the abdomen after each meal along with loss of hunger.

• A small quantity of Kali Mirch with some buttermilk will give quick relief.

• Sometimes when there is burning sensation in the abdomen (mainly on the upper side) which might be associated with poor appetite and loose bowls, black pepper again comes to use. It is handy to take one fourth of a tea spoon of black pepper powder with a glass of lemon water before the meals.

• In another case of indigestion, there may be associated symptoms of recurrent loose stools along with expulsion of mucous. You may find relief with the natural herb of Black pepper. You need to take the recommended dose of Kali Mirch and add some Saindhav Salt, Aniseed, dried mint and Large Cardamom.

• When there is excessive production and expulsion of wind along with foul smell, here is another home remedy four or five freshly grounded peppers in a glassful of water with a few drops of lemon taken early morning on empty stomach can cure the same.

• Indigestion along with occasional loose motions is another distressing feature of the ailment of indigestion. Not only this tends to cause general malaise, but you tend to fell lethargic and weak. Try this natural home remedy of the herb of black pepper. You need to chew four or five pepper corns for some time and swallow the juice. You may take some water afterwards and repeat this twice or thrice a day depending upon the severity of the condition.

• Indigestion is by and large accompanied by symptoms of loss of hunger. For this, I would recommend you take a mixture of powders of pepper, cumin seeds dried ginger and Saindhav salt in equal quantities after meals along with some warm water.
