Athitheeswarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is located in Vaniyambadi Town, Vellore district, in the state of Tamilnadu. The temple is in Old Vaniyambadi and is believed to be more than 1000 years old. It is known as a Parihara Sthalam for people born under Punarvasu or Punarpoosam Nakshatra or star.

People born under Punarpoosam star and having afflictions in their horoscope can get relief by doing Poojas at this temple. Punarpoosam star people have to visit this temple during their star day and do Pushpanjali or flower pooja to the deity here if they want to get rid of malefic planetary effects in their natal chart.

Punarpoosam is a male star of Sattvic character. Basic traits of the people born under this Nakshatra include a religious orientation and being sincere in their efforts. They have good communication skills and have good control of themselves. A strong physique combined with a strong mind makes them unique. They are quite popular but tend to fall sick often.

Punarpoosam happens to be the birth star of Lord Rama. It is believed that if we buy groceries, perform housewarming ceremonies, and buy new properties on this day, it may bring more wealth. Punarvasu Nakshatra people are quite intelligent and have a talent for debate. They are also good at reading other people’s characters.

Legends

According to legend, once Lord Brahma cursed Goddess Saraswathi to lose her power of speech. Saraswathi came down to Earth and began to meditate after reaching Sringeri. Brahma went searching for her and eventually found her in Sringeri. He was able to persuade her to return to Heaven with him. On the way back, they reached a temple located on the Northern belt of the river Palar. They stayed at that place and worshipped Lord Shiva here. Pleased with Saraswati’s worship, Shiva restored her speech. On recovering her speech, Saraswathi sang here, and due to this, the place came to be known as Vaniyambadi.

There is another legend, too, which says that Saint Kashyap’s wife Athithi prayed to Shiva here every Punarpoosam star day and received a boon. Hence Shiva here is called Athitheeswarar.

Importance of Janma Nakshatra and Rasi

Janma Nakshatra (Birth Star) has an important role in Vedic astrology

Every constellation or Nakshatra has a unique personality. It is associated with certain natural instincts, likes, and dislikes and does certain things better than others. All Nakshatras have good as well as bad qualities.

Each star or Nakshatra has 3 key parts: a symbol, a deity, and a planet that rules it.

For example, Kritika birth star’s symbol is a knife, blade, or sharp object. Hence, the person born under this star has a razor-sharp mind and talks to the point. The ruling planet of this star is the Sun, so the person will have Sun-like qualities/traits - leadership, pride, spirituality, harshness, goal-oriented, etc. Agni is the Devata, so they are hot-tempered and transformative. They may have either strong Jathar Agni, which is responsible for digestion (so they may be heavy eaters), or strong Bhuta Agni (essential for spiritual progress).

Worshipping the Devata of the Janma Nakshatra gives clarity to the mind during difficult times. Also, Moon being the karaka for the concept of Nakshatras, Janma Nakshatra is very important for the health and overall well-being of a person.

Like Nakshatra, Birth Rasi or the sign in which the Moon is placed at the time of birth is also important. It is required for making predictions about the life of a person. The ascendant chart, birth Rasi chart, and Navamsa chart are the 3 main charts prepared to check the strength of the planets.
