The word “anti-aging” has been coined within the past two centuries. The reason is because we know more about aging than ever before in medical history and we realize there are things we can do to both enhance the quality of life we have now and to prevent the “normal” degeneration that comes along with aging like heart disease, bone fragility, Alzheimer’s, cancer etc…
We know that the part of the cell that is responsible for aging is our DNA. Our cellular blueprint is responsible for cell replication that occurs every minute of every day. If our DNA is intact, the replication is easy, quick and efficient. If our DNA is damaged in anyway, every cell that is reproduced from that standpoint will lack vitality and contribute to both symptoms and degeneration.
The main thing that damages our DNA are “free-radicals”. These are single oxygen species that destroy our cellular machinery. They occur whenever we expose ourselves to processed foods, alcohol, synthetic drugs etc… Free radicals also occur due to natural cellular function. Whenever a cell does work, it produces waste. This waste, if not removed efficiently from the body acts as free radicals and damage cells.
At the end of our chromosomes (long strand of DNA) are something called telomeres. These are like bookends to the DNA and their job is to protect each strand of DNA. With normal aging, they shrink and this makes our DNA vulnerable and weak. There are things we can do to protect DNA and telomere damage.
The main thing is to enjoy lots of fruits and vegetables as they have the highest amount of antioxidants. You can take extra antioxidants for added protection. The main antioxidants people think of are vitamin C and E. There are even stronger ones like Broccoli Seed Extract (Detox II) and Rosemary Extract (Antioxidant Defense). Sometimes food based antioxidants work better than extracted vitamins.
We have a combination of three items that together enhance the DNA of our mitochondria – which are the batteries to our cells. As we age, they die off and we become fatigued, depressed, don’t sleep well, feel anxious etc. We also develop increased risks of age related illnesses. The three nutrients in Ageless Genes are alpha lipoic acid, resveretrol and arginine. The quality of these three are the best on the market. For example, our resvetrol contains pterostilbenes (the active ingredient of resveretrol) and quericitin which enhances absorption of it. This is the only type of resveretrol we carry and has been proven on human clinical trials to offer high levels of resveretrol since we know it is very difficult to assimilate in a capsule. Arginine must be chelated with alpha keto gluterate to be absorbed and utilized well. This is the only form we carry. These three nutrients together are in one packet of Ageless Genes©. If you take one packet twice daily you are using insurance for cell vitality and longevity.
In addition, because aging is considered a “stressful event”, we cannot forget the importance of B vitamins. If you take enough to make sure your urine is bright, clear yellow all day long until you wake up in the morning, your body is saturated and never deficient in the vitamin that buffers stress.
Lastly, it is essential to replace hormones that are lost during the “normal aging” process. They are like the battery charger to our cells. All of the hormones are important to measure and replace if levels are not optimal. As a physician who has made studying the research on Bio-Identical Replacement Therapy (BHRT) my specialty, optimal levels were when we were in our youth, full of energy and free of risks. The hormones are like an orchestra and work in concert to create strong overall health. If you haven’t had a baseline of hormones drawn please consider measuring your thyroid levels, DHEA, vitamin D, estradiol, progesterone and testosterone. Melatonin is another hormone used in proactive aging even if you sleep well as it is the #1 antioxidant in the body.
Here’s to good a long, health life!
