We are energy beings. What I mean by that is that we are created from the energy of the Infinite Source and we are composed of that same energy. We think we are solid material beings, but we are energy. Each molecule is nothing more than energy. Recently, something was brought to my attention concerning this energy.

We often find ourselves feeling frustrated or angry. We feel like we are going to pop if something doesn’t change. That, my friends, is either misdirected energy or built up energy. To relieve the stress, we often do something active or we rely on drugs or alcohol, or the worst drug of all, television. These activities serve the purpose of draining off the excess energy that we have.

Lets’ say, for example, that the energy is misdirected. One of your co-workers comes up to you and says something that makes you angry. They say you didn’t do your job right or something. The anger builds, but you don’t say anything back to them because the only thing you can think of would probably start a fight and you don’t want to get fired. You direct your anger, you energy, down within you somewhere. And there it sits. It not only sits there, but if you don’t do something to drain it off, it builds. When you get out of work you head for the gym to, “work off some steam.” This is misdirected energy.

Built up energy comes when you don’t have sufficient release. Let’s say that you are on vacation at Aunt Mable’s house. She is your kindly aunt of a hundred and seventy-three years and you love her to death, but she is about the most boring person you can imagine. Her two topics of conversation are her knitting and her cat. After two days of sitting on her couch and listening to the same stories about her cat and her knitting, you say you have to run to the store for something and you literally go outside and run to the store. You just have to do something to burn off some of the energy built up!

We are created to be expression of the Energy Source. That means we are created to be active and expressive in our lives and relationships. When confrontation comes or other relational problems, instead of misdirecting our energy, we must learn to direct it in positive ways! We might learn to be more assertive in our conversation, gaining the ability to stand up for ourselves without being combative. We might learn to put our energy into our work so that no one can make comments about it or we might drain off that misdirected energy into something positive. Sometimes we are the responsible party for our misdirected energy. We sit and watch TV instead of working in the yard and then feel embarrassed that no one can see our house for the weeds. Maybe we deserved the comments at work because we spent more time surfing the net than doing our job,.

In our sedentary society, it is easy to find ourselves with built up energy. We don’t exercise enough, we aren’t mobile enough. Obesity is a very observable sigh of built up energy. Our food is energy to be used by the body and when it isn’t used, it is stored. Ta Da! Fat guy! Get out and play more. Work in your yard. Learn to play racket ball or go for a walk. Take up dancing. Put more energy into your job. These are all great ways to release the stored energy.

Learn to recognize the symptoms. Those feelings of frustration are there for a purpose. They are telling you that you need to do some energy work. They are a call to action! What will you do with that call?
