Success and Personal Growth: Refuse to Accept Defeat

Learning that everything is a potential opportunity requires personal growth that leads to success. When things don’t go the way you want them to, or how you planned it’s easy to hang your head in defeat. But you can’t actually ever be defeated if you refuse to accept defeat. Defeat is only possible if you give up and no longer try to get the success you want, if you give up and refuse to take the actions that will gain the success you want.

You may not achieve success the way you thought you would, so what, the important thing is that you get there. Nothing is impossible and everything is possible if you just find the opportunity. Every apparent adversity holds a nugget leading to an equivalent opportunity. It’s your job to discover those nuggets and use them to move you forward.

When you refuse to accept defeat you accept full responsibility and accountability. All results that you currently experience happen as a direct consequence of your actions. You are the only person accountable for your actions. So when you experience results different than what you want to experience it’s up to you to identify your personal growth opportunities that will change your actions, so you get different results.

You can’t keep doing the same things and expect different results, yet people do it every day all day. If you want success you have to be different. Being different means that you will evaluate all your actions and understand why you earned the results you received. You’ll ask yourself what went well, what didn’t go well, where things went wrong, what you can do differently in the future in a similar situation, and what you need to lean to prepare for the next opportunity?

If you don’t have success now it just means you have some personal growth that needs to happen. You’ll never experience that growth if you give up. Refusing to accept defeat means you have the passion, persistence, desire, and determination to keep going no matter what happens. As you learn from each result you don’t want, you know that much more about what you can do and learn to get the result you do want.
