“The older you get the fatter you get, the fatter you get, the quicker you get old”

Food for thought:

When muscle mass is greater
muscle mass / fat ratio = creation of energy

When fat is greater
muscle mass / fat ratio = fat creation or production. Decline in energy.

The single most pertinent thing in a study of 84 men and women aged 90-106 was muscle mass. Biochemically, that's reflected in one thing, anabolic metabolism (repair). Greater anabolic metabolism equals more energy, decreased fat, and increased muscle mass. As a result the muscle makes more energy and makes exercise easy and enjoyable. Ain't it great!

It is unfortunate that many of us fall into sedentary behavior, due to work, low energy levels, lack of inspiration, or plain old laziness. This is bad because our bodies-operating systems-works under the assumption that fitness equals survival. Biologists point out that bone strength is maintained by anabolic metabolisms, lose anabolic drive and you lose more than bone density. You lose strength and flexibility in joints, tendons, and ligaments. The lose of muscle mass starts the catabolic (damage) breakdown of all connective tissues.

Even more bad news for those that lead a sedentary lifestyle.

Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) is critical to optimal function of the brain, nervous system and helps lubricate the spongy disks that lie between the vertebrae. Research has shown that only sedentary people have low levels of Cerebrospinal fluid. Those who maintain muscle mass and range-of-motion exercise (twisting and bending of the spine) don't have this deficiency.

A good way to avoid the sedentary trap is by exercising consistently. I know we all have things that needed to get done yesterday, however, if you are interested in prolonging your prime you need to make yourself the most important piece of the equation. After all, without you, the things you want to do can't get done. It doesn't matter if your in your mid 20's Do you think your brain knows how old you are? No, and it doesn't give a rip either because biological age is so much more important than how many candles you have on your cake. Your attitudes, beliefs and maintenance of anabolic metabolism play a major role in turning back the hands of time. Be sure to take care of the most important person in your life, you. Everything else will fall into place.
