I was driving my son and two of his friends to school on the morning of January 20th and asked if their teachers were going to turn on the televisions at school to watch the inauguration of the new, (and first African-American), President of the United States. When they responded with the usual teenage tone of complacency, it dawned on me that this day was going to be a huge day in American history! I went on to tell them the following with all of the conviction that John Bellushi did in "Animal House" when he so aptly stated that the fraternity should get back at Dean Wormer for putting them on super secret double probation!
Regardless of everyone's political affiliation, how will our children and our grandchildren look back on this day? Whether the citizens of this country like Mr. Obama is not important. It is the office we should all respect.
I personally did not vote for Mr. Obama. That was my choice as an American and a right that was given to me by our forefathers. I sincerely hope that he is able to get the ball rolling in turning this country around so that we can continue our tradition of being one of the worlds economic superpowers.
How will everyone look back on this day? We are swearing in the first African American to the most powerful office in the world! Yes. There have been "people of color" as well as women, that held positions of power in other countries. Some have done very well. Some have not. Electing a "minority", if you will, into office in the United States is HUGE. Electing a woman would have been HUGE as well.
Historically, inauguration day 2009 will be HUGE! This event will be written about the way events such as Washington crossing the Delaware or Lincoln freeing the slaves was written about, especially if Mr. Obama does well as the President and especially if his presidency brings the citizens of all races in this country closer together.
Please appreciate this inauguration ceremony. Whether you like the man being sworn in to office or not, this will be a day that will be remembered in the annals of United States history.
With that being said, we are all in the middle of what is probably be the biggest financial crisis the world has ever seen. President Obama will work very hard to right the ship but he cannot do it alone. It is also true that President Bush did not make the economy as bad as it is all by himself.
In sports, who gets the blame and eventually gets fired if the team is playing lousy? The manager. That is what President Bush was and it is what President Obama is. We have basically the same team on the field with a few exceptions that were appointed by the new President. The problem with the new team is that most of team was also on President Bush’s team. They are just playing different positions now.
The question that comes to my mind is what are you going to do to protect yourself in case President Obama is the wrong manager for the team as well? Even if he is the right man for the job it could take a decade for the economy to recover.
Do you have a backup plan for yourself? Look at the recent events in the job market. The “Big Three” automakers in the U.S.A. are in trouble, and Caterpillar, the world’s largest manufacturer of heavy equipment, is about to lay off 20,000 workers!
How secure is your job? Is there such a thing as job security? No. Can you survive and keep your house for longer than a couple of months if you lose your job without going to foreclosure? What will you do? Do you have a backup plan?
Many people have started looking for extra income through internet marketing. Others are not only looking for extra money; they are looking to replace their current income so they don’t have to worry about job security any more. Is either of these scenarios the situation you are currently in? Are you ready for a backup plan? Are you ready to work hard for six months to a year so that you never have to work for someone else again?
