A positive feng shui symbol is always a positive symbol, regardless of where it is placed in your home or office. That’s the good news. It may be placed in its most effective location, or not. Still, it will benefit you at least partially.

Similarly, an item that is a negative symbol, for you, will erode your life in varying degrees depending on its power and where it is placed.

How do you know if something is a positive or negative symbol for you? First, you need to know that it is likely that most of the items in your surroundings are positive, for you.

It is because we humans adapt so quickly to our environments that clutter in general and negative symbols in particular can take root. It almost like they are a low grade infection that causes some small discomforts and over time become chronic yet nonspecific pain.

Items in your home become “wallpaper” after we’ve lived with them for just a few weeks. This wallpaper effect leads to accumulating stuff in our environments that doesn’t serve us.

If something in your home or office came to mind as you read that last sentence, it may be a negative symbol for you. Not necessarily, but certainly perhaps. That item is has what I like to call “dubious feng shui.” It may be good, it may not.

If I asked you, like I do in feng shui consultations when I see something that strikes me as potentially harmful to you, “Tell me about this piece,” the story you tell lets me know whether:

• it stays exactly where it is; it is already placed to maximum effectiveness
• we move the piece to another location where it will support a specific intention
• we move it “out of the grid” where it will do less to subvert your desires
• or, I recommend letting go of it entirely citing the reasons why.

Take a few moments and walk through your home. Make a “Dubious Feng Shui” List. Then, consider how you came to own each item. Does the story give you good feelings or does it bring you down? Let your feelings be your guide. Of course, if you’d like a neutral, trained observer, that is what consultations are for!

Or perhaps you just have one or two questionable items. Post a photo with your comment/question below! I'll answer your question AND You'll be entered to win a hour of primo consultation time with me!
