The root cause of our health crisis is our failure to cure chronic ailments. Conventional medicine treats the symptoms rather than the causes, and hence never cures diseases, resulting in endless cycles of examinations, diagnostic tests, drug and surgery therapies. Often, the lethal effects of conventional medicine treatments further aggravate the problem, causing sicker patients, more tests and additional therapies. They are a bottomless financial drain that also harm and kill millions of Americans annually, as explained below in article I, "Conventional Drug and Surgery Therapies are the Culprit to Our Health Crisis." Article II, "Common Alternative Therapies Cannot Solve Our Health Crisis" further supports the fact that the root cause of our crisis is a therapeutic problem.

Current reform proposals never address this root cause, and therefore are meaningless!

I have innovated an East/West treatment based on Chinese medicine that readily cures western syndromes. Undeniable proof of this is based on thousands of cases posted on www.drtong.com. Most cases are patient testimonies from radio shows and Youtube videos, which are the only convincing way to prove the instant dramatic results, which, until now, were only imaginable. Article III, "East/West Synthesis: Balancing Eastern Spirituality and Western Technology to Create an Optimal Health System," shows how this therapy can easily save trillions of dollars by stopping the financial drain and annual killing of millions of Americans.

My findings validate Chinese medicine, a form of energy science (e-science) first described by the ancient Chinese and now confirmed by modern physics such as quantum mechanics and Einstein's Theory of Relativity. The understanding of e-science will not only solve our health crisis, but improve our society as well. The relevant facts from my discovery are:

1. Everything has a dual existence of matter and energy, which are body and mind/spirit, respectively in a human, and it is the spirit that creates the body and governs its health. Mind over matter is the rule.

2. Spirits are boundless and there are no boundaries between them. Hence, health is attainable by balancing the spiritual energies of not only the body, but also the environment - a discipline the Chinese call feng shui. The fact that there are no boundaries between spirits means that individualism is a mirage. We are in reality, one unified and energetic whole; thus selfless acts by one benefit all.

3. A living system, such as an organism or a group of organisms, prospers only when its parts are in harmony with the whole. E-science promotes harmony on all levels - this approach achieves harmony in the body as well as in society.

4. The foremost law of Nature is the Law of Cause and Effect - the effects of your acts eventually come back and affect you.

These natural laws will be proven with modern physics in a book I am writing to prove that chronic disorders are curable. The ultimate proof of the governing role of the spirit, however, is our irrefutable therapeutic results. Many of our problems today, from unhealthy food cravings to the myriad of western syndromes, are due to obsession with materialism and neglect of spirituality. This results in mind/body blockages that can cause the lack of discipline, other symptoms and selfish acts that harm others as well as ourselves.

I presented my clinical findings in two conferences 15 years ago and have sponsored two teaching symposiums since then; however, the medical profession, media and government have not responded to this breakthrough. Instead, special interest groups try to preserve the status quo by censoring this information and sometimes denying insurance reimbursements despite our life-saving clinical results.

As a result, Dr. Elain Tong, D.O., my daughter who has learned this method from me, and I are the only professionals who have this key knowledge needed to solve our health crisis. Health reform will not be effective until we can effectively cure chronic ailments.

We have sent this information to the White House Healthcare Team, which has not yet acknowledged its importance. Instead, there are talks of universal coverage including the 48 million uninsured. However, without any proposal to earn money or save money, the only way to pay for the uninsured is by printing money. Consequently, the tax payers will end up paying for it later in the form of inflationary tax. Massive bailouts to the wealthy did not work. Adding more bailouts to the poor only put more burden on responsible tax payers. This additional financial stress on top of current economic woes will cause more health problems. We are aggravating our health crisis rather than relieving it.

To bring this matter into the open, I have submitted information on this breakthrough for a competition sponsored by Google, which will award five ideas that can change the world. Read the enclosed article I. Articles II and III will be sent to you and posted on www.drtong.com. If you agree with us, go to Google's "www.project10tothe100th" on 3/17/09 to see if this idea qualifies as a finalist and vote for it.

Lack of public awareness is perpetuating our crisis. Without knowing the causes of our problems and acting on them, we will continue to suffer.

I. Conventional Drug and Surgery Therapies Are the Culprit to Our Health Crisis

Yee-Wing Tong, M.D., Elain Tong, D.O., February 2009

The problems of our health care system

The American health care system is broken. We spend more money on health care than any nation, yet we lead in degenerative diseases, and rank 45th in life expectancy and 42nd in infant mortality compared to other nations [1][2]. The cover article in the December 1, 2008 issue of Time Magazine tells of "The Sorry State of American Health", pointing out that "despite advances in medicine, Americans are less healthy than [they] used to be, and the next generation may be even worse off" [3].

The reason for this dilemma is that advances in drugs and surgery, contrary to popular belief, usually result in deterioration rather than enhancement of health. Indeed, current data indicates that drugs and surgery not only harm, but kill hundreds of thousands of Americans a year [4]-[6]. Heart disease (652,091) and cancers (559,312) can no longer be blamed as the leading causes of annual deaths in America [7]. Rather, it is deaths due to standard drugs and surgery treatments that have a clear lead.

For example, Dr J. Mercola, D.O. has verified from 1997 CDC website statistics that the number one cause of death in Americans age 45 or younger is "unintentional injections and adverse reactions" - a euphemism for iatrogenic deaths [8][9]. A landmark JAMA study by Johns Hopkins Professor B. Starfield shows that 225,000 to 284,000 Americans die annually from hospital care, which makes it the 3rd leading cause of deaths in the US [10]! However, renowned nutritionist G. Null, and C. Dean, M.D., et al. reported a much higher number of hospital deaths: over 780,000 from another study [11]! And this does not include deaths from private sectors or drug research.

Data from private sectors is most likely worse, especially in assisted living and nursing homes, where the elderly are drowned with medications. A recent JAMA report shows 1 in 25 elderly Americans, or 2.2 million people, are at serious risk of dangerous drug combinations [12][13]. Similarly, another JAMA study reports that 1 in 4 Americans over 65 are prescribed drugs they should not take, and that millions are given dangerous drug combinations [14]. Considering there are more nursing homes, assisted living institutes, surgery centers, and private clinics than hospitals, the combined deaths can easily double those of hospitals!

In addition, there have been deaths from drug research. A Newsweek article "Trials--and Errors" describes numerous tragic deaths of unsuspecting infants and young volunteers in drug research [15]. Professor A. Shamoo from the University of Maryland and the National Human Research Protection Advisory Committee estimated that over 10 million American subjects and over 25 million worldwide participate annually in drug studies, while thousands of deaths and tens of thousands of adverse events are never reported [16]. Finally, in our litigious society, iatrogenic deaths are often reported as natural or organic causes, thus underrating the drug mortality rate.

To further confirm this, consider that there have been at least five occasions in history where western physicians from various nations staged work sanctions. Each time, the death rates in the surrounding areas dropped significantly, up to as much as 50%. And when the physicians returned to work, the death rates rose back to the levels before the strike [17]! The casualties are similar in nations using orthodox medicine [18]-[21]. As Dr. L. Dossey, M.D., former Executive Editor of Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine, commented, "In any other area of social life, this would be a national scandal" [22].

What everyone does not realize is that even the 1,211,403 combined deaths from heart disease and cancer can be attributed indirectly to erroneous allopathic treatments. As we shall prove in a later chapter, most of these deaths and those from other chronic ailments can be readily avoided by treating the cause of the disorders to restore health. Indeed, it is unfathomable that the medicine we rely on for healing our ailments is actually the most lethal, killing millions of Americans annually, more than World War I and II combined. Considering further that this massive killing is ongoing - meaning millions of people are being killed every year directly or indirectly as a result of the allopathic approach, the magnitude of this tragedy becomes truly heart wrenching.

Western medicine only examines the physical, symptomatic aspects of a disease

This problem stems from the fact that Western medicine only recognizes the physical aspect of a human and treats the symptoms of a disease rather than its cause. Imagine wall stains caused by a leaking pipe. Painting over the stains is only a temporary remedy--if the cause (the leak) is not repaired, the symptom (water stains) is sure to return. Similarly, suppressing hypertension and other symptoms without curing their cause is akin to painting over the wall stains without fixing the leak. The claim that pharmaceutical treatments are scientific is a myth. No industry other than medicine would accept endless "treatments" that do not fix the cause of a problem. And the use of experiments to confirm a drug's effect in suppressing symptoms is the same as confirming the efficacy of certain paints in covering the wall stains. No one would call this "scientific."

Moreover, in our experience, over 90% of patients with chronic ailments take two or more drugs, the effects of which could be altered by their chemical interactions with each other. None of these multiple drug therapies, or surgeries, have been validated by conventional controlled studies. It bears repeating that no one in reality would accept endless repairs of a problem without having fixed its cause, let alone be foolish enough to spend time and money to evaluate which repair is more effective.

The point is, treating an ailment without addressing its root level will never cure it. Instead, it makes the problem worse, significantly worse. First, the untreated root disease (the "leak") continues to rot the body. Drugs, with their numerous side effects, invasive surgeries, harmful radiation and high-tech medicine (all analogous to the toxic paint) all add salt onto the wound and accelerate health decay. The claim that drug benefits outweigh the risks is false. In fact, giving the body something that it does not normally use to maintain health is unhealthy, as it drains the body's energy to dispose of the material. If the given materials are toxic chemicals, the damage is even greater, especially to the liver and kidney.

Orthodox physicians, however, equate the absence of detectable adverse effects as harmless. This false notion leads to the abusive use of toxic drugs, invasive surgeries, harmful radiation, ultrasonic and super-magnetic vibrations. For example, 1.6 million children have CT scans annually and 1,500 of them will die later from radiation-induced cancer. In addition, researchers at the Cincinnati's Children's Hospital found that children often receive radiation doses six times higher than necessary [23]. This problem is accentuated by the reductionistic approach of specialization, where the body is divided into parts, each separately treated by a specialist. Each specialist adds more treatments to alleviate the symptoms of one part, but ignores their harm on the rest of the body. This is like pouring gasoline onto a fire, fueling the conventional system into a rapid, destructive, vicious cycle of endless therapies, extensive damage, additional symptoms, sicker patients and astronomical costs as evident by the above data.

Healing both symptom and cause, body and mind as a whole

The ancient Chinese, on the other hand, observed that a human is both a physical body and an energetic mind, or spirit, and it is spiritual energy, which they call "qi", that governs the health of the body (the scientific basis of this will be explored in another chapter). At death, the body does not lose a gene, stem cell, or anything physical; rather, it loses the connection to its spirit and living qi, the source of life. As a result, all living functions stop, including the maintenance of health. The concept of qi has been the foundation of Chinese medicine for thousands of years. Unfortunately, traditional acupuncture, on which it is based, is often not strong enough to address severe ailments to prove the Chinese principles.

The East West Wellness Medical Center resolves this problem by enhancing the effect of acupuncture with western anesthetic blocks in a treatment called Neuro-BioEnergetics (NBE), producing instant, profound and lasting results far superior to that of drugs and surgeries, and without their side effects. It provides a cure to even the most severe ailments. Ample testimonials of patients diagnosed with a wide spectrum of disorders who have been saved by NBE therapy, posted on YouTube www.youtube.com/user/doctortong and www.drtong.com/, provide undeniable evidence that chronic disorders considered incurable in western medicine can indeed be cured. In fact, the vast majority of these patients have suffered for years, even decades, with conventional therapies without results, yet over 90% of them obtained dramatic relief with their first treatment!

The sharp contrast between the misery of these patients under the conventional system and their dramatic relief with the NBE treatment would likely be construed as exaggerations without documentation of patient testimonies. Furthermore, a similar comparison between the long-term failure of western medicine with the instant success of the NBE method definitively confirms the fallacy of the western approach and the validity of Chinese medicine. In contrast to western medicine's material theory, Chinese medicine is energy science, or e-science - a term coined by Yee-Wing Tong, M.D. to denote the study of the spiritual realm. Quantum physics and Einstein's Relativity Theory have affirmed the energy paradigm (the dual existence of matter and energy) to replace the Newtonian material model (the sole existence of matter) a century ago.

It must be emphasized that NBE therapies cure the disease by restoring health, so that eventually all treatments, including NBE, can be stopped, while patients maintain health with diet and lifestyle adjustments. To restore health, all symptoms must be eliminated, as a healthy person has no symptoms. Thus far, no other medical treatment can cure any symptom with the same effectiveness, let alone all symptoms at once. Therefore, the NBE approach is truly the medical breakthrough of the century!

Fixing our Health Care System

Using a fallacious harmful medical system is costly, both in health and expenditure. U.S. health care spending in 2008 rose 6.9% - two times the rate of inflation- to $2.4 trillion, at nearly $8,000 per person, representing 17% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP). It is projected to reach $4.3 trillion in 2017, or 20% of GDP [24]. The newest governmental report estimates that the average health care spending in 2009 will be $8,160 per person, and will jump to $13,100 by 2018 [25]! Even with this enormous spending, there are 48 million uninsured Americans.

As outgoing Secretary of Health and Human Services Michael Leavitt also predicts, in the absence of meaningful reforms, the average health care spending over the next two decades, including the portion of taxes that pays for Medicare and Medicaid, will go from 23% to 41% of average household income! He further estimates that today's global recession will bring the projected exhaustion of the Medicare Part A trust fund from 2019 to 2016. And with the declining economy and increasing jobless rate, Medicaid, the program for the poor, could become a bigger problem than Medicare [26].

On top of this big burden is our current financial calamity, which is deepening despite huge bailouts. Bailouts by printing money will not solve our problems. Instead, it will later on result in high inflation, which in truth is an unfair tax on future generations. Instead, we need drastic measures to achieve real production and savings. Fixing our health system not only can accomplish this, but as a result, people will also be more productive due to improved health. We have countless examples of patients who were crippled or disabled under orthodox medicine but have regained vibrant health with our therapy, enabling them to expand their business or win athletic championships that were unattainable in the past.

The key to fixing our health system is to stop the endless financial drain due to the vicious allopathic cycle by using effective curative therapies, such as the NBE method. This method requires minimal orthodox diagnostic tests, which do not detect the cause of a disease. Moreover, it prevents acute ailments from becoming chronic, or infections from becoming epidemics. Most crucial is that it restores health. Current research focuses on fixing symptoms rather than restoring health, and should be abandoned. Utilizing the NBE approach along with abandoning current research will save billions of dollars!

The first step then, is to adopt such a holistic approach across mainstream medicine to restore the health of the sick. We are fortunate that President Obama has a similar insight -- mandating insurance reimbursements to be based on patient improvement rather than on accepted procedures [27]. This incentive will attract the medical profession to practice medicine that truly promotes health.

In summary, our health crisis is caused by an erroneous medical approach entailing endless treatments that harm rather than enhance health, resulting in unprecedented high cost and casualties. Any reform without a treatment that restores health and plugs this financial drain would be futile. The NBE approach has already been presented in two medical symposiums in 1994 and 1996 [28][29]. Unfortunately, special interest groups are unwilling to relinquish their fallacious practice to embrace this approach. More critical to our issue is that the same groups also control insurance reimbursements, basing them on allopathic therapies rather than clinical improvement as mandated by President Obama. Any meaningful reform must abolish this monopoly to provide a free market according to patients' choices. Finally, the public has become increasingly aware of the disastrous effects of orthodox medicine and is seeking alternative therapies en mass. However, as will be explained in the next chapter, commonly known alternative therapies are inadequate to cure our health care crisis.

Author's Bio:

Dr. Tong was born in China, and immigrated to the United States at the age of 14. He attended undergraduate school at the California Institute of Technology, initially majoring in physics, then changing to biology when he decided to embark on a medical career. He obtained his medical education at the University of Southern California School of Medicine, and his anesthesia training at the LA County-USC Medical Center.

During his fourth year in medical school, he was exposed to acupuncture. Skeptical at first because of his western scientific background, he tried acupuncture for various symptoms, and subsequently became interested in Chinese medicine.

In 1977, he started practicing surgical anesthesia. Meanwhile, he managed pain disorders by combining acupuncture and anesthetic techniques, such as nerve blocks, epidurals, and cryoneurolysis. He called this approach Neuro-BioEnergetics, or NBE treatment. It was through this combination practice that he gradually realized the fallacy of drug and surgery treatment, namely, they treat symptoms rather than the causes of a disease. In 1984, he discontinued his practice of anesthesia and devoted full time to pain management.

From his pain therapies, Dr. Tong observed that non-pain symptoms were serendipitously eliminated along with the pain. Hence, he expanded his study and practice to include non-pain disorders. When he had acquired the proficiency to consistently cure a variety of chronic ailments using the Chinese principle, he decided to investigate its scientific basis.

He began to study a form of energy healing called Qigong, "Qi" being the subtle energy essence upon which Chinese medicine is based. He soon found out how the ancient Chinese discovered the Meridian systems (see infrared thermographic demonstration of qigong on the mind/body page). More importantly, he proved the reality of Qi by acquiring the ability to emit it and effect movement of people many feet away. He decided to incorporate this energy healing into his practice.

However, six months of excessive draining of this life energy caused a sudden collapse of his health. He developed unrelenting pain, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, immune deficiency, spine deformity, memory loss and depression. He sought help from practitioners of traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncturists, herbalists, chiropractors, and energy healers with little improvement. He decided to treat himself using his own NBE technique.

After nine years of research and experimentation with NBE treatments and various remedies, such as nutrition, herbs, meditation, biomagnetics, homeopathy, and aromatherapy, Dr. Tong has managed to regain much of his health. It was from this tortuous healing saga that he has gained a profound insight to the mind-body mechanism, and learned to effectively cure chronic degenerative ailments.

The remarkable case histories provided on this web site are Dr. Tong's typical results. He attributes much of this success to his own healing experience. Moreover, through his research he was able to prove the congruence of ancient Eastern wisdom with modern Western science. Specifically, he found that quantum and Relativistic kinematics are consistent with the Chinese yin and yang principle as well as its concept of inseparable body, mind, and spirit, with spiritual immanence.

The NBE treatment rectifies both physical and mental problems, and is effective for a variety of chronic ailments. Based on the primacy of the mind in healing, the treatment clears up deep emotional wounds as well as old physical injuries. Moreover, the therapy promotes health rather than fighting diseases as with the conventional method. The success of the NBE approach is the result of conforming to Nature, whereas the failure of allopathic medicine in similar problems is due to its contradiction to physiology. His patients come from all over the world after failing to obtain relief elsewhere.

He first presented his findings for pain disorders in the 1994 annual conference of the American Academy of Pain Management. Subsequently in 1996, he presented a synopsis entitled "Chronic Disorders are Curable with Neuro-BioEnergetics Treatment " at a symposium sponsored by the Maricopa Medical Center and Arizona Pain Institute. The findings were supported by a study of 1000 patients with a variety of chronic maladies including pain, surgical, metabolic, endocrine, immune and mental problems. The synopsis was published in the symposium proceedings and is posted on this web site.

This marks the first time a Western physician validated the Eastern energy concept with positive clinical results covering a wide spectrum of degenerative disorders. A comprehensive paper explaining the energy concept and the NBE treatment was rejected by the New England Journal of Medicine, the Journal of American Medical Association, and Lancet without expert reviews. In response, Dr. Tong wrote a rebuttal to these journals, which is posted under "Publications and Unpublished Writings" on this web site.

Dr. Tong is writing a book regarding this breakthrough. The main purpose is to expose the fallacy of the allopathic model, which is fixated on an outdated Newtonian material concept, ignoring the energetic aspects of our existence as revealed by quantum mechanics and Relativity. This model is not scientific as it contradicts physics, our most precise scientific discipline. A paradigm shift in medicine is long over due.

It is unfortunate that the United States leads the world in degenerative ailments despite its enormous health expenditure. Mortality from orthodox therapies are now the 3rd leading cause of deaths in the U.S.! Yet organized medicine is too preoccupied with personal interests to seek the truth. It was an informed public that uncovered in the past the importance of nutrition, and it is also the public that is responsible for the massive movement to natural therapies. It is time for medicine to learn to cure diseases rather than covering symptoms. The current band-aid approach causes more harm than good.

Dr. Tong is a member of the Institute of Noetic Sciences, American Holistic Medical Association, American Holistic Health Association, and a diplomat of the American Academy of Pain Management. He is a frequent guest lecturer in health and civil conferences. He has appeared with his patients on KNBC national TV and other local TV and radio programs, and is currently educating the public through cable TV and the internet.
