Nothing says “time to relax” than a long, calming bath. This soothing, go-to evening calm-down activity is something that you should be incorporating into your life as much as possible, especially if you live a stressful – or even if you don’t! Sadly, the fast-paced times of modern life means that most of us are stuck to taking showers, so if you’re a little unsure of how you should be maximizing your bathtime bliss, fear no longer. From scheduling strategy to luxury body wash, here are the seven ways you can seriously upgrade your bath game.

Wait Until the Time is Right
It can be tempting to jump in the tub right when you get home from work. It might be something that you’ve waited for all day. But nothing ruins a good bathe like being interrupted. If you live in a full house, you know better than to try and get any serious time away from the noise and commotion.

Light Some Candles, and Not Just Because They Smell Good
Candles are wonderful, and when their fragrances mix with the aromatic scents of your various soaps and shampoos, the combination can be a piece de resistance. But that’s not the only thing candles have going for them. The flicker of candle’s light as it bounces off the walls of your bathroom will create a soothing visual feast to go along with those great smells.

Turn on Some Light Music
Maybe you need a little peace and quiet – that’s what this bathtime is for, after all. But sometimes, the sheer silence of taking a bath can be deafening. Have you ever tried to fall asleep at night and had a hard time because it was so quiet? Rather than risk your relaxation, consider putting on some light classical or jazz music.

Have A Glass of Wine and a Book on Hand
Some people will be happy enough to just sit in the bath, breathe deeply, and tune out. But if this sounds more like boredom than beatitude, you’re going to want a relaxing activity to do while you soak. Most people prefer to read a book or magazine while in the tub, an exercise that has stood the test of time. For bonus points, add a glass of wine (or two).

Perhaps Some Light Food, Too?
You’re not going to be soaking long enough to go starving, but there’s nothing wrong with having some snacks nearby. For maximum contentment, go for light foods such as grapes, strawberries, and maybe even cheeses, which will go well with that glass of wine. These natural foods will be a lot more gratifying than a box of crackers, or worse, potato chips. That said, we won’t tell if you sneak some chocolates in.

Rest Your Weary Head
Unsurprisingly, a bathtub made of porcelain or plastic is not very comfortable for your head. While it may be contoured to shape your back, neck, and head, resting the back of your head on the tub is not the best option when you’re trying to reach a level of total comfort. So, bring in with you a towel or even a pillow to rest your head upon.

Use Luxury Body Wash
Sure, you can get away with using your basic soaps, shampoos, and oils in the tub. However, that’s like making an apple pie with rotten apples – you can’t mess up the main ingredient! For the cherry on top of your perfect bath night, be sure to use lathers that will do your body well. The luxury body wash by Apple & Bears is a good example of what you should aim to use; it’s made from natural, ethical sources, and it’s alcohol and gluten-free. So, you can feel good and feel good about the soap you’re using!
