The debate about who makes the better employee, a man or a machine, is something that has gone on for a long time. Arguments can be made for both sides. People are able to think independently and are capable of adjusting to the different situations that they face. They can communicate more efficiently as compare to machines and can even earn from their daily activities. Machines perform repetitive tasks over and over. Also, they do the same thing and get the similar results every time.
One of the biggest differences between machines and human is that machines don't need any motivation to perform their best. They perform at the same level, regardless of how long they have worked or how menial the job is. People can get bored when they do the same thing every day. They may feel sad, grumpy or foggy on a given day and also get tired due to chronic sleep deprivation and lack of rest. Perhaps, that's the reason why many corporate honchos spend a lot of money on organizing practices to maximize employee motivation. Some of them provide bonuses and other incentives; while others keep a happy work environment by organizing team building exercises and organizing functions on special days. Also, some companies bring in motivational speakers to help and inspire the employees. These speakers can do many things, but they usually realize that the best tool that an individual has to get or remain motivated is in their brain. If people learn to harness the power of their brain, they may find themselves able to remain a very productive and happy person.
Where does Motivation Come From
The first thing that people need to realize is that what they should do to keep themselves motivated, focused and always following the right path. They may think that the idea of getting a bonus for finishing a project means that money is the motivation. They may like the idea of getting a trophy for winning a competition is a symbol of their success and will strive to reach it. While these are physical things that people can motivate them, the idea of wanting something starts in the brain. A person has to have the desire to reach the goal that will give them the reward. They will have to weigh the effort needed and the reward that is received. When they decide the reward is worth it, they will then come up with the plan to achieve it. All of these things are a result of a thought process in the brain.
Harness the power of the brain
Since the brain is at the base of motivation, the idea of harnessing that power starts to make sense. If a person can convince themselves that achieving anything is worthwhile through their own thought process, they may not need the symbolic rewards to become motivated. Motivational speakers help the individual to learn the ways they can harness the power they have in their brain to remain or to improve their motivation every day.
- Think about what you will get – Picture this in the office town hall; you get an award for the employee of the year and a bonus. Isn't it sounding exciting and inspiring enough to head to work right away? Until you get a reward for achieving something, it is only an idea that you have. Visualizing what it will be like when you get the reward will make it more real and can help a person get started or it can keep them going towards the goal.
- Have reminders along the way – Keep on reminding yourselves about the goals. If you find ways to remind yourself of what you want; it will help with the motivation. Reminders can be in the form of notes or they can be thinking about what you have accomplished at the end of the day. If working in team, you can also share some inspirational quotes with each other or start your say by reading something propelling enough to start doing your work.
- Get a support system – When you are not able to find motivation within yourself, have people around you that can help pick you up. This is a way to get through the times when you are ready to give up on your goal. Your co-worker can help you by reminding about the goals; giving lengthy speech; asking open-ended questions and kept on inquiring how their goal is going.
- Avoid negativity – When a person uses words like - I Can’t or I don’t know how; they are setting themselves up for failure. It is better to convince yourself that you can achieve anything that you want if you think negatively. When you have positive thoughts, it is easier to stay motivated and to reach your goals. To avoid bad vibes while working, one can acknowledge the bad vibe or just do a breathe in and out exercise.
- Never procrastinate – The easiest way to lose motivation is to put things off until another day. As it makes us feel good in the present situation. Some people will claim they are prioritizing things or that they are doing the best they can, but the reality is that they are avoiding their goals, which in turn make them makes them more agitated, nervous and anxious. It's important to always stay on their path and recognize the legitimate why they are doing so - it might be due to their need of freedom, relaxation or entertainment. In this case, you can use these desires to reward yourself for completing the task.
When a person learns these ways to think about what they want and what they are going to achieve, it becomes easier for them to stay motivated. They will start to do things because it is what they want and not because it is what someone else is telling them to do. Anyone that has any ideas or tips should take the time to share them with us.
