Why do a very small number of people live a life of success and fulfillment while the vast majority struggle just to maintain the status quo? Have these people been somehow "chosen" by the success Gods?

There really are no "secrets" to success. Those who live lives of fulfillment discover the principles integral to success and put those principles into practice on a daily basis. Most people go through life allowing themselves to be pushed around by circumstances. Meanwhile, successful people are committed to controlling their own destiny and live life with purpose and meaning.

Even though the definition of the word success is unique to everybody, there are a number of common principles to be found from one successful person to the next. Adopting these principles and putting them to use with consistency in your own life will put you on the path of greater achievement.

Having said that, here are 4 of the many common principles you'll find amongst virtually all successful people.

Success Principles #1
Identify A Trend And Get In Its Way – Historically, a good success strategy has always been to identify a hot trend which interests you then get in its way. Timing is important as nearly all trends will eventually run their course. Just think of pre-paid long distance calling cards. When first introduced to the market, those who spotted this trend early enough jumped on board and did very well for themselves financially. Today, these cards can be found on store shelves everywhere. Calling cards as a hot trend and thus the potential for wealth in reselling these cards is long gone.

Success Principles #2
Create A Trend – History is loaded with stories of people who've become wildly successful by starting a trend. One of the most glaring examples of a great trend of today would be the popularity of online video as started by YouTube. They come in all shapes and sizes so don't worry; the trend you start does not have to be the next YouTube. The most beneficial aspect of creating a trend is it means you'll be the first in a category and you'll be the first in your buyer's mind. And that is a pretty darn good place to be.

Success Principles #3
Cherish Your Personal Freedom – Many insist that time is the most precious asset a person has. Although time is immeasurably valuable, it is not more precious than your freedom. For without freedom to use your time as you see fit then time itself becomes worthless. Those who are truly successful would never do anything with the potential to compromise their freedom. Additionally, what good is any amount of money or success without the freedom to enjoy it (think Bernard Madoff)?

Success Principles #4
It's Better To Receive Then To Give – Altruism is one of the greatest gestures we can perform in life. The ability to help out another at his or her time of need is a cornerstone of what defines us as human beings. However, you're not able to sufficiently help somebody else unless and until you've first helped yourself. Work first on receiving wealth and success so you can then better help others.

There are many principles a person can blend into their own personalized success formula. And even though the exact principles may differ from one person to the next, a number of them are the same for all of us. The principles as outlined above are pretty common to success. As you go through life you will develop your own formula but at the same time it's important that you practice these, and other, common success principles.
