1. Take time out to imagine the possibilities. Remember when you were a kid and mom, dad, teachers and other adults would tell you to get your head out of the clouds? It was spoken to you so much, you stopped dreaming and you got a 9 to 5 or 8 to late job that didn?t feed your soul. You forgot what it was like to play or work at something where you lose complete track of time.

In order to find your right livelihood, you must get your head back in those clouds, start dreaming again and get unrealistic. In this day in age where you have the capability to reach anyone in the world with the power of technology, start imagining and dreaming what you would like to do. Take some time and think about your ideal life, your ideal day, what you like, what you don't like and the things most important to you. Get a notebook or a journal and write your desires, your thoughts and your dreams down. The only way you can create your best life, is to dream it, imagine it and then bring it to life.

2. Start a dialogue. When it comes to thinking about getting out of the rat race and working on your own, you are not alone. There are other dreamers, like you ready to make the change. Making this transition can be difficult if you are not aware of what others are doing and thinking. Getting in the conversation and starting a dialogue will help you feel part of a community and will bridge the gap when your loved ones simply doubt your dreams. You can find people in libraries, at meet up groups, on blogs and forums. They are everywhere. You simply need to start listening, sharing and getting involved.

3. Enjoy the ride. We are a very goal oriented society, where we believe we have not “arrived” until we have reached that ultimate goal of…
* Getting a degree
* Getting married
* Having a baby

And of course the list can go on and on and on. "News Flash? this just in, after you reach one goal there will always be another goal to attain, another new car to buy and another something or other to go after. Achieving goals and getting what you want is GOOD. However, going after things just because you saw it on TV and waiting for those things to make you happy is a recipe for guaranteed discontentment. Waiting to be satisfied until that important goal is reached, is an illusion. Whether you know what you want to do or not, whether you have the things you want in life or not, the time to start enjoying your life?s journey is now.

4. Record your journey. One way to enjoy your journey is to record it. Honestly, I know I said enjoy your journey, but your journey into the unknown world of creating a life you desire can be scary and uncomfortable. However, when you record your journey, by taking pictures and keeping a journal of the little things, you will soon see how far you have come and simply laugh at the early days and stages of it all.

5. Observe what others are doing. Do you wonder how in the world you're going to take your idea to action? One way to start is to observe what others are doing. There are tons of examples on the internet. Beyond that, there are plenty of offline solo-preneur businesses in your community. You just have to start observing and asking others what they do. You might be pleasantly surprised. On my block alone there is a family-based photographer who travels the world, a small business coach, who coaches night club owners, a jewelry designer, just starting out and an introvert carpet cleaner, who is buying a second home, because his business is doing well, very well. Simply opening your eyes to what others are doing will open you up to ideas you thought were never possible.

6. Make room for your dreams. You can't pursue your passions if you are glued to the TV, committed to too many people and committees and are the only one in your family who cooks, cleans and does the laundry. You simply can?t do it, unless you eliminate time-wasters. In order for you to really have a shot at doing something you love, you must get rid of the things that don't nourish who you are and who you would like to be. Create a support group to help you with everyday life. Delegate some chores and errands to other people. If you struggle with this concept, at the very least make time daily to work your project. Dedicate at least 30 minutes a day to becoming a better runner, dancer, gardener, writer…and if you love it you?ll soon see your 30 minutes turn into 45 minutes to an hour. When this happens you'll understand why you need to make more room for what you love.

7. Turn on your opportunity radar. If you're going to create the career of your dreams you must tune into what is going on in the world. Paying attention to the opportunities available takes practice and often times it is easier to come up with ideas that are not related to what you want to do. Mainly, because you can freely explore the ideas without judgment. Once you become more and more open to opportunities you can start looking for ideas for yourself. Five places you can start looking for opportunities are when you chime into what people complain about, current trends, groups of people also known as niches, interests and hobbies, personal experience and crisis. Turn your radar on and watch the opportunities roll in.

8. Do it now. No matter how clumsy, imperfect and not ready you are to begin your new venture. There is never a perfect time to start your journey to joyful work and living. The skies will never part, the birds will never sing and you will never get permission to do what you love from someone else. You will have to give yourself the permission and move into your right livelihood by taking action. Starting now.

9. Keep your day job. Yep, you heard me right. Keeping your job, will decrease the pressure and stress of starting something new. You can also change your perspective about your day job and view it as a business loan to help you get going. Just make sure your day job is not so toxic you are unable to focus on your passions when you get home.

10. Don’t give up. Albert Einstein once said, “It's not that I'm so smart, it's just that I stay with the problems longer.” Most people fail, because they simply give up. If you have a dream to be available for your children, to eat right and exercise, to have more than 2 weeks off for vacation, to see part of the world you have never seen before, to start a local vegetable garden, to write a book, to be a world touring dancer then I say to you never, never give up.
