As Tony Robbins puts it “emotion is energy in motion”. Change the way you move, change the way you feel.

How different do you feel when you’re jumping up and down vs. just walking vs. when you’re sitting down?

Alcohol, smoking and food change our physiology; so does playing a sport, so does dancing, so does just jumping up and down for ten seconds. We can even just stand up relaxed and smile and we instantly feel different.

In fact, every emotion we feel has a specific physiology.

Change the way you move, what you focus on and what you say to yourself, and you will instantly feel better.

Think of someone who feels depressed. Where are their shoulders? Where is their head? Where are their hands?

Now think of someone who feels happy. Where are their shoulders? Where is their head? Where are their hands?

Amy Cuddy, a researcher at Harvard University who studies body language and the impact it has on your hormones, and her team have classified different body positions as “high power” or “low power” poses. In general, the high power poses are open and relaxed while the low power poses are closed and guarded.

Here’s a perfect picture to illustrate how our physiology changes the way we feel.

A study found that people who exercises were 25 percent less likely to feel depressed or anxiety over the next five years. Even a nice, fun 10 minute walk every day relaxes your muscles and your mind.

Exercise has long been known for it’s ability in stress management, happiness and a feeling of aliveness. Why? Because when we exercise, we release certain neurotransmitters, such as the all so famous endorphins.

Real Life Client Example

In one of my sessions, my client changed her physiology, focus, and language to feel empowered. After feeling empowered, I asked her to go back into feeling sad. Within 10 seconds her shoulders, head and hands all dropped down. I tried to get her to go deeper into that state, just for her to see HOW she MAKES herself feel sad.

When I asked her “are you there (in your sad state) yet?” she remembered something empowering about our conversation.

All of a sudden, her head and shoulders literally popped up, with her arms extended and a big smile on her face she said “NOT REAAALLY!”

and then laughed.

She literally changed how she felt in a second, and the biggest noticeable change was her physiology.
