There are four types of facial structure implants that are used for augmentation. Chin implant, midface implants cheekbone implants and angle of jaw implants

Chin Implant Surgery

The two facial features that can be seen from a side view are the nose and the chin. Nose structure and rhinoplasty are discussed in another section, so the chin will now be examined. A weak chin creates an unbalanced look and may cause the nose to look over-projected from a side view, as well as draw negative attention to the structure of the upper neck. A wrap-around chin implant creates a longer, wider chin without it appearing sharp. Sometimes, I chin is two point T and a chin implant is inserted only to give natural width to the chin. Chin implant surgery is often done at the same time as a rhinoplasty keeping the face and a more balanced look. The chin implant is placed over the existing chin by means of a small, discreet incision hidden under the chin or rarely a chin implant can be inserted through the mouth and this is a popular face lift operation. Surgery of the Chin A chin implant patient should fall under three specific criteria, which are the wish to enlarge the chin and create a balance within the face, be physically sound, and have a realistic view of their surgeon’s ability to transform their face. Isolated chin implant surgery is usually performed under conscious sedation which is painless. Post operatively, there are tapes around the chin to minimize swelling. Complications from the surgery are very unlikely but include long-term numbness of the lower lip, asymmetry of the chin, and infection.

Midface implants

As we age, we lose our fat in our cheeks and the midface becomes collapsed. This also occurs in both men and women who have lost weight. This gives the appearance of being gaunt and hollow. Many see their grandparents who of loss volume to their cheeks.

Most commonly, this problem is corrected with it injectable fillers temporary and long-term. But a more permanent solution is the insertion of the midface implants through an incision above the teeth inside the mouth so there is no scar on the outside. This surgery is done under conscious sedation and is painless. Postoperatively, there can be swelling of both cheeks but often minimal if any bruising. Postop discomfort is usually treated with minimal pain medication. Complications from the surgery are very unlikely but include infection and asymmetry.

Cheekbone implants and Facelift

for those that want high angular look common in young models both male and female, augmentation of the upper outer part of the cheek by the insertion of cheekbone implants can be achieved very dramatically. Although this can be achieved with injectable fillers some want a more permanent solution to this high cheekbone look. These are inserted through the same incision as the midface implants with a small little hot placed in the mouth just above the upper teeth. Postoperatively, there is more swelling than with the midface implants because they have to be inserted up high in the cheeks. Complications from the surgery are very unlikely but includes asymmetry and infection. Facelift and facial implants are similar methods for a better face and smile. 4. Angle of Jaw Implants
Jaw Implants

Angle of Jaw Implants (or injectable fillers) aids patients who do not like the look of narrow jaws where the angle is too soft. Some like the angle to be well defined giving a chiseled look. These implants are placed through the mouth outside the boney jaw and placed at the angle where they become secured in place. There may be more swelling with these implants and it may take 2 weeks to look socially acceptable.

Understanding Jaw Implants

The best candidate for an angle of jaw implant is a physically healthy man or woman who has realistic expectations and is interested in enhancing the appearance of a weak or narrow jaw. Jaw surgery is often performed with general anesthesia and can take place in a surgeon’s office-based facility, a hospital, or an outpatient surgical center. The procedure itself typically takes between one and two hours to perform.
After surgery, patients an expect mild to moderate discomfort, and smiling, talking and moving the mouth may be difficult at first. Swelling can occur and, though much of it will fade within several days, some specific swelling can remain for anywhere from two weeks to several months. Stitches are typically dissolved within five to ten days. Most patients are able to return to work within about a week, though it can take two weeks before you look socially acceptable. More strenuous activities, including any activities which risk bumping or jarring the face, will need to be avoided for four to six weeks. The potential complications associated with jaw surgery may include adverse anesthesia reaction, implant shifting, infection, and the need for additional surgery.
